Washer not working

Washer makes a loud noise, won't spin, agitate, or wash. With the lid open,we were able to drain the water by pressing in the little black spin button. It didn't spin but it did drain.

Please help.

I have had some experience with washers and l would check for the belt to be off of the pulleys or loose pulley on the main shaft or the belt may not be tight enough. Hope this helps. If all belt drive seems ok you might have a bad motor but check the belt drive first.

    Hi hope it hasn't been to long getting back to you. But with some washers you have to take the back cover off and I usually tilt (be sure no water is in the tub) the washer forward and lean it against the wall or have someone hold it forward and with a flashlight visually look (FIRST UNPLUG FROM AC PLUG) and find the belt (black like belt on a car) and wiggle it with your fingers to see if it is very loose. A properly operating belt will be fairly tight but not too tight. Another thing to do is with it tilted is to plug it in and start the spin cycle and see if the belt is turning around the pulleys. If it is not loose and is running then you may have a bad transmission which does the agitating and spin. If you don't have a back cover to remove you could lay the washer down on its face on a blanket to prevent scratches and check the belt as mentioned above. Check for any oil leaks around the center shaft that goes centrally to the agitator. Oil leaks could mean a bad transmission. Hope this helps Please post if any further questions. No turn at all of the belt in the spin cycle could be a bad motor. The belt must be turning some since you said it would drain the water which is removed by the water pump driven by the belt.

The spinner's belt might be loose or broken, that's why it doesn't spin... Open the back part and you'll see inside the belt and the motor that makes the noise.

post me results...

    Find the screwed opening of the machine and unscrew it... When opened you'll see the belt inside. If it is not broken apart then try to switch it on, if the spinner motor spins and the belt doesn't. Then you'll need to remove it and buy a replacement... bring with you the belt for reference....

Check door switch: If the lid switch is bad it will not drain or spin. Try this test: With lid open let it finish wash cycle. Press lid switch down with screwdriver. Washer should begin draining. Release switch. Motor should stop. Press switch a second time. Washer should start spinning as it continues to drain. If motor doesn't come on while lid switch is pressed, replace the switch. OR

Kenmore 90 plus series washer won't spin, barely agitates, will drain - but makes loud noise

It sounds like the transmission is done. Can't pinpoint what it is exactly, but I would start there.

I have a samsung front loader washer model number we357a7w/xaa only 3 and a half years old that stopped draining water and making a funny noise. It wont even go on spin cycle. please advise?

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. If your washer doesn't drain or spin, you may read and learn what parts may cause this. First, you will want to check your water pump. You need to make sure it is working. Make sure you check the belt on the pump. Make sure it is not broken or loose. Also, make sure your pulley is not stuck in place. Sometimes, they will stick or barely turn at all. If this is the case, you will need to replace it. If the pump, pulley, and belt are working, make sure your motor is working. You should be able to hear it if it is. If it isn't, check your lid switch. The lid switch can cause the motor to not work. It may need adjusted. If not, go ahead and change it. A bad lid switch may cause the washer to not work at all. Now, if your pump is pumping and the washer still won't spin, you will want to check your belt and clutch. Once again, the belt may be broke or loose. Check to make sure your clutch is not worn also. This may be a case of a bad lid switch again as well. You could have a bad drive motor. This is what controls spinning, draining, and agitation. You could have a broken motor coupler. Over time, they will go bad and need replaced. It is possible that your transmission is slipping or damaged. And lastly, you could have a bad basket drive ir spin bearing. This is what allows the inner tub to move. If this is the case, you will probably hear loud sounds or loud banging. This noise is heard in the spin cycle.

Won't spin, makes clunking noise, drains fine

If it agitates fine , with normal noise , drains with lid closed , then the problem is probably the transmission .

Washing Machine wont spin/agitate

The most common problem is the lid switch. with a screw driver in hand open the lid and press down on the lid switch. sometimes the mounting screws will crack the switch housing and the striker can't move the actuator far enough. I am interested in the clicking noise, as this could indicate a pump issue or a sock seizing up the tub.

sounds like you have a broken lid switch on the washer, maybe someone slammed the door or placed or stood on top of the washer, a broken lid switch won't allow washer to go into spin mode is a safety device so if is on spin cycle an someone sticks their hand it the machine stops an not breaks your hand.

broken lid swtich

Check lid switch. Most will not run with lid open and the switch may not be pressed down when door is closed

My Kenmore 80 series washer just started making a loud Aihaiha electrical or motor type noise. This happened during a heavy load cycle. Noise was very loud. When I click to regular, delicate or hand wash....

The following are the reasons for the drum not spinning :-
* Test the lid switch
* Test the timer control
* Test the centrifugal switch
* Test the water level switch
* Inspect the motor coupler
* Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only)
* Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
* Test the motor
* Inspect the pulley
* Test the transmission

In the case of loud noises in the machine, the drum bearings might have been damaged and might need a replacement. Also do check the leveling of the machine. Good luck.
