From Control Panel, click System, Device Manager, click + beside DVD Drive, right click you drive and select properties, DVD Region Tab, and change Region to Canada. You can only chnage this 5 times until it locks on the last change. Look into a program called AnyDVD as it will play Region Free.
keep in mind you can only change the region 5 times and cannot change it anymore after that (regarless to windows reinstallation , its a hardware thing) you might wanna consider purchasing "dvd region free" or use a 3rd party region free firmware to bypass that
I think the easiest way is to use either 'DVD Region Killer' (free) or alternatively, 'DVD Region-Free' (trialware). Both are software solutions meaning you don't need to keep switching the region on your DVD drive.
You could change the Region Code of your DVD back & forth, but that will only work a limited number of times (usually 4). Or else you can pick up an external DVD drive, configure your internal DVD for either Region 1 or Region 2, and configure the external device for the other region.
You can only change the region code 4 times then it locks on the last change.
There are some firmware upgrades that can change the drive to region free, if you can screw it up or put in the wrong frmware upgrade then the DVD drive will be a piece on junk.
I suggest you install a region free software that will allow you to play and region DVDs.
Go to www.dvdidle.com to get their Region-Free software, it is not very expensive.
