Philips 42 in. Plasma shut down

By shnawky on Feb 01, 2008

" "
My wife was watching tv today and the screen started flashing colored blobs. No discernible picture was coming through. Can't open menus. After 10 seconds TV goes blank. Green front panel light goes off. Red panel light starts blinking (7 times...pause...7 times...). Have to unplug TV to get power fully off. Can't get picture back up. Audio was fine, but seems to be gone now as well...

HELP appreciated.

- As I AV+ through to DVD, etc., the same problem. I disconnected all inputs (coax, Dish receiver vid and aud., side input DVD) just to see if I could get the menu up. No luck. Just the flashing pixel mix...

Same Problem

Mar 03, 2008

-   Had TV for 2 years with no issues then it just shut down.
It now displays the 7 red flashes on the front panel LED.

Tried unplugging for a day and the TV trys to power up but shuts down in about 10 seconds or less.

Prior to this occuring, the TV would have intermittent issues with not displaying the bottom portion of the screen for several weeks.

Anyone know what it costs to have the PSU replaced or if the part/board can just be bought for self-install ?-   myplasma

-   I am a Tech in NZ.This is a common failure of this model. The only solution, we are told, is to replace the PSU. If anyone has a better fix I'd love to know as these PCB's are very expensive. Apparently Samsung who make the boards do not supply any circuit information.-   Guest

The LED blinking 7 times is a code to tell the service tech what is wrong with the TV. From what I've read at other sites it sounds like there;s a good posibility that it is a power supply gone bad.

You probably should call a TV repair shop for assisitance.
