Question about Toshiba Satellite M45-S265 Notebook

1 Answer

Laptop router interface

I have a Netgear router, 54 Mbps WRG614 and a Toshiba laptop Satellite M45-S359. Problem is that I connect easily at 54Mbps and sometimes after an hour or so the connection speed changes to a lower connection speeds all the way down to 1Mbps. It may go back up after a random amount of time or if I reboot it then immediately goes back to 54Mbps and works ok for a while and then it drops down again. I know it is not the router because I have two different Netgear routers (same model numbers) and the problem is idential with either router. I also have contacted Netgear and have changed the frequencies and still have the problem.

I suspect it is something with the laptop!

Can you help?

Hi,

Assuming that it is a laptop issue, pls verify that in your Device Manager,/Wireless Adapter/Properties/ that:
1. Advanced - All Property Setting should be "Not Present" except for the Authentication if you use WEP or security key;
2. Power Management - uncheck "Allow Computer to turn off..."

Pls log down your current settings before changing so as to have a restore basis if things don't work out.

There might also be some other settings such as transmit power that could be changed to "always high" or something like that.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Toshiba Satellite M45 S359.

The actual switch is rare to go, the DC jack in the laptop is more likely the issue and will require a complete tear down to access.

NetGear wireless router WGR614 v6 runs with speed 1 0 mbps instead of 54 mbps

how far away are you from your wireless router when your getting 10 mbps?
Please note that wireless will not guarantee speeds of 54 mbps.
It will dramatically decrease the farther away you or how much interference there is between your laptop and router.
Also check if your wireless router is set to 802.11 G mode. if you have any devices that only support 802.11B you will only get speeds up to 11mbps compared to G at 54mbps

Hello, I dont think you need the drivers for Router. And first of all you need to connect your modem to your router through ethernet cable. And after connecting your modem, configure your wireless router by typing this IP address in internet explorer: 192.168.1.1 The user id is admin and the password is password. Then detect your broadband connection by using the option in the router. Try connecting your Laptop to wifi after setting the connection.

100mbps on my house computer but only 54 on my laptop

100mbps is just the maximum speed capacity that can be used and depends on the speed that you subscribed so it doesn't mean you'll get a sharp 100 mbps on that.

Internal Hard Disk Upgrade

Yes, there is. Match the type of drive (Serial ATA or Parallel ATA) you get with what you have. Make sure your Satellite sees the drive in the BIOS. For drives larger than 120 GB, recommend operating systems Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or higher) or Vista. Older OS's have a 137 GB limitation (they only see the first 137 GB of the hard drive despite its size).
