Go to device mgr and verify that the port in question is always on. Look in device mgr after installing mouse in desired USB and verify that windows has detected it. Typically, there is no additional drivers needed for this type of application, but check with the mfr of the mouse to be sure...accordianman
Check for model number then search the internet for it. Make sure you put a quotation mark in front first then add the word model followed by the letters and numbers that appear on your device after the word.
Example "model:mso-06
Look at Logitech's website. You can try their drivers but no guarantee they will work with a clone of their product.

Microsoft's Elite Wireless keyboard and mouse is an excellent combination for use, according to your criteria. It costs less than $65.00 and is easily connected to replace a wired keyboard and mouse.
I have been using two of them for years now, and have never had a problem with them.
They eliminate excess wires, and work like a charm.

I had the same problem a couple of days ago after downloading and running "Paragon Total Defrag 2009 SE". It did not go well and took 3.5 hours on a laptop with Win Vista Home and a 250 gig hard drive. To be honest I also allowed 2 windows updates at the same time. I noticed that a Synaptics driver ps/2 port touchpad driver had also been loaded as a microsoft update. I have removed this to no avail. The usb optical mouse I have works intermittently but is prone to dropping out when I then have to use the touchpad. Pulling the usb connector out and reinserting it occasionally works, but mostly the mouse doesn't work. Is this yet another Microsoft update problem?.
Laptop was left on all nght.Next day was "hung up". After pulling battery to restart my usb port would not work (cpu again hung up wheneer a device was pluged in) I can plug in my GE 2 button mouse but the computer lists it as an unknown device. I do not have installation disk and cannot find the driver.
