I have the same problem. I have reseated the RAM and the video card. I also removed my ATI graphics card and then used the on-board card. But the problem remains!

The status bar doesn't even start to fill up. Just stays stuck at the BIOS screen and won't respond to F2 or F12 or anything else.

Restore factory settings

You must press <F8> before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press <F8> after the Windows logo appears on the screen, the Advanced Boot Options menu will not appear on the screen. If you do not see the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this step until you see the menu on the screen.

Dell dimension 5100 has no video

If the computer is actually starting, then I would connect another monitor to it to see if there is a video signal. If you have no luck, then you have a video card problem.
Of course, there could be another problem keeping the computer from starting. For instance, do you see any messages on the screen at all? If you do, then it's probably not the monitor. It is probably a hardware issue--so you need to troubleshoot your system.

How can i go to bios setup

Straight from the Dell website:
  1. Turn on (or restart) your computer.

  2. When "F2 = Setup, F12 = Boot Menu" appears in the upper-right corner of the screen, press .

If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Microsoft Windows desktop. Then shut down your computer and try again.

Dimension 5100 and windows xp pro SP3 clean install

Well if you have it installed on the computer and cant get past the Windows logo. Put the SP3 disk in and do a repair. Make sure you hit -R and not the repair button after clicking continue. Well the directions for a repair will be on the screen. That is my thoughts on what you should do. If you have already done this, then I'm not sure where you should head to next. Hope this helps!!

Dell Dimension 5100 Won't start up

Hi

First disconnecting the power cord and re-seat all connections (Keyboard, Mouse espercially). Connect up the power cord and try powering the PC.

To help you troubleshoot a problem, Dell Dimension 5100 has four diagnostic lights labeled "1," "2," "3," and "4" on the front panel. When the computer starts normally, the lights flash. After the computer starts, all four lights display solid green. If the computer malfunctions, the color and sequence of the lights identify the problem.

If the computer failed to start up check the diagnostic lights color and sequence and Check the link below for more info (Assuming you have another system that can access internet)
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim5100/en/sm/tshoot1.htm#wp1120147

Alternatively, contact Dell Support with the diagnostic lights color and sequence to raise a service call if the system if under warranty.
