If you are using Windows, try going in the the Device or Hardware manager and removing the device. Then, look on the menu bar at the top to rescan for hardware changes. Sometimes this is the best option. I am assuming that the speakers work, but, I would plug in a set of headphones to be sure. Also, sounds dumb, but ensure that you are not plugging the speakers into the mic jack (microphone) or the line-out jack (low level output) instead of the headphone jack.
It might be that the CFL lighting tubes on your monitor have failed, in which case they need to be replaced. Borrow a screen to try on your computer to test if it is in actual fact the your screen that is faulty. This is normally fixed by a computer technician! If it is under warranty return it!
there isn't one on this machine, you can have one installed at your local electronice or computer place or get an external drive that will sit on your desk or something and plug into your computer through a usb port.
right click on open area on the desk top. Go to properties - screen saver - power monitor - go to the hibernate tab - uncheck enable hibernation - click apply then ok.
