This mainly depends on your internet modem, I use linksys when I play xbox live. Also I use wireless adapter, sometimes an ethernet cable as well to plug straight from my xbox to my modem. Make sure your modem is connected to the internet, and that if your xbox has a signal, or properly connected to it.
Hope this helps a little. Good Luck!

The dsl is red and when it turn green i still can connect to xbox live, but when i try to connect my xbox says i need a higher mtu is that possible to change from a laptop

Once you have all the wireless settings of the router, you are ready to connect the play station or the x-box to the wireless network.

X-BOX

On the x-box you will need to connect to the wireless network now.
Open the main Interface of the X-Box.

1. In the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox and open System Settings.

2. Select Network Settings, Configure Network.

3. On the Basic Settings tab, select your wireless settings.

4. Select the name (SSID) of your wireless network. If your router isn't broadcasting your network's name, select Specify Unlisted Network and enter the name.

5. If your network has wireless security, enter your WEP or WPA key.

6. Try to connect to Xbox LIVE again.

Trouble connecting to the internet on X-box ,Play station or WII ?

You can try to reduce the MTU settings on the router. if the MTU on the router is set to 1500 then change the MTU to 1365. Also you will need to open the ports on the router.

For X-box port numbers are - 53, 80-88, 3074 .

Xbox Live - MTU Error

Xbox 360 MTU errors

This issue occurs if your router or the gateway is incompatible with Xbox Live, or if your router or the gateway has an incorrect MTU setting. Note: Xbox Live requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364. We recommend that you try out the steps shown below.

Things to try:
1. Ensure that you have properly setup your connection to Live by using the Connectivity Wizard http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/connectionmethods/webconnectivitywizard.htm
2. Visit the following Web site to determine whether you have the correct firmware version that has been certified as compatible: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/connect/routerlanding.htm
3. See the router or gateway instruction manual for information about how to change the MTU setting to 1364, to do this, or to determine whether your router supports this feature, see the router support documentation or contact support for your router device.
4. If you share a connection with a router and a modem, try a direct connection without the router.

Mtu settings

Two things needs to be cleared:

1) Which connection did you talking about LAN/WAN?

2) Xbox live may not be up yet, can you verify it?

Most home gateway routers can only change WAM MTU for certain connection type (PPPOE), and cannot set MTU for LAN and other WAN connection.

To change MTU for PPPOE, going to WAN connection setting, and you will see the MTU options box. But do not change it unless your ISP told you to do so.
So make sure Xbox live is online -- I am no Xbox fun so I have no idea how it works, but just guess from your message.

Have the n+ wireless router/modem trying to connect via a cable to xbox live but keep gettin insufficient MTU even though the actual MTU of the router is higher than required

You may have to use trial and error to find the best MTU fit:

MTU Default of 1500 to 1492
Tart the setting the MTU @ 1400

MTU setting. Xbox LIVE requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364.
The information your console sends and receives is broken up into "packets" for transmission over your network. MTU is a setting that controls the size of these packets. If it's too small, you won't be able to connect to Xbox LIVE.
Top Solutions Try these solutions in order. If you give each one a shot and you still can't connect, contact Xbox Customer Support. Note that they will ask you try the suggestions on this page first.
Solution 1: Check your router MTU settings Xbox LIVE requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364. Usually, you can change your MTU setting from your router configuration web page, which is supplied by your router manufacturer.
Learn how to find and use your router configuration page
Look for the MTU setting on the router configuration page. When you find it, set it to Auto or 1364 (or higher), save your settings, and then try to connect to Xbox LIVE again on your console.

Solution 2: Connect directly to the modem If your router's MTU is set correctly, try bypassing it by connecting your console directly to the modem. This will help determine whether there's a problem with your router or something else on your network.
Note
This may require you to move your console to a location close to your modem. This is a temporary arrangement, meant only to troubleshoot your connection. If your console is connected wirelessly, you'll need an Ethernet cable for this step.
To connect your console directly to your modem (wired connection):
  1. Find the Ethernet cable that runs between your console and the router.
  2. Unplug the cable from the router, leaving it connected to the console.
  3. Find the Ethernet cable that runs between the router and the modem.
  4. Unplug the cable from the modem, and plug the cable from your console in its place.
To connect your console directly to your modem (wireless connection):
  1. Unplug the USB connector for your adapter from the console. The adapter can remain attached to the console.
  2. Plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the back of the console.
  3. Find the Ethernet cable that runs between your router and the modem.
  4. Unplug the cable from the modem, and plug the cable from your console in its place.
Try to connect to Xbox LIVE again. If it works, there may be an issue with your router. Double-check the MTU setting in solution 1 above. Also confirm that you're using a compatible router, and make sure it has the latest updates from the manufacturer. If the problem persists, you may want to try a different router.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Connection problems

MTU stands for "Maximum Transmission Connection". Some routers and/or network gateways are incompatible with Xbox LIVE, while others may be compatible but merely need to have a setting changed. If you compare your router to the list of routers at the following web address, you can confirm whether or not your hardware has been confirmed as compatible with Xbox LIVE by Microsoft:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/homenetworking/equipment.htm

Whether or not your hardware is listed as compatible, it would still be a good idea to check your instruction manual for the hardware you are using and see how (if possible) to change the MTU settings. Microsoft suggests that the MTU setting should be 1364. Using untested hardware or hardware not listed as compatible may still work, however, future updates to LIVE may suddenly make your hardware incompatible, as updates to LIVE and the Xbox console are made to work with the specifications of tested and listed compatible routers and gateways.
