Clean the 'black dot' in the centre of the paper tray. There is an optical sensor under that. The tray will lift even without paper, but will go back immediately. If the scanner stops after 3 pages, check disk space in your computer. If you are scanning in TIFF uncompressed, it takes lot of space. For color and Grey try JPG format, for mono TIFF G4 is the ideal option. S. Mohan, Chennai, India
It seems that your scanner is conflicting with previously installed software. It is impossible to say whether it is Canon or Adobe. Reinstalling Acrobat or updating it may work as trying a different folder like Desktop instead of My Documents. One or more drivers are at fault. What system are you running? 2000, XP, Linux? Update your video rendering software too. Let me know so that I can help solve this issue. Just try as mentioned first.
I have many years experience repairing Canon scanners so here is my suggestion for you.
As long as the drivers that make your scanner/printer are installed correctly and you should be able to scan anything. You can use almost any software to scan with. Microsoft Paint will allow you to scan along with Paint shop pro or Adobe photoshop. Or you can google the make and model of your scanner and add capture perfect to the end of it and that should take you to a site where you can download capture perfect that program is free and it will scan both documents or pictures.
CapturePerfect ver 3 is on chargeable basis! You can download ver 2.0 from http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0022439.asp?model=
Though this is listed under Canon DR 5020, it works fine with DR 9080C. DR 9080C has very intelligent features and ver 2 works fine. I do not know if there are addl features with ver 3.0. I have used for scanning over 500,000 docs.

HP multi units are notorious for scanner failures. It is just a weak component in their machines. I have seen this time and time again. The only solution is to change the scanner out or purchase a different machine. Just keep in mind the notoriety HP has which failed scanners. If you want to venture into the replacement of the scanner the following website might have the product you are looking for. Otherwise, search around the net for a scanner assembly unit for the OJ7310. But, be prepared scanner units are not cheap. Check here first...PrinterFixer.net
I recieved this error when trying to scan pages in using our new Kofax scanning solution with a DR-3080CII. I discovered that the latest canon driver for that scanner was not compatible with the software and it made the application hang in the background. I found an older driver that was compatible and installed it, no more error.
