funny noise..rotate click, rotate click. device is not recognize... just moved all family pictures to this drive

I just placed some important files and recent important funeral pictures on this drive. It started buzzing without loading up to the computer and nothing else. I took it back to Office Max where I purchased it. They would like to attempt retrieving the files and place them on discs for me. They also said they would offer me another external drive. I was attracted to the high capacity offered by Simple Tech, but I think I might settle for something else when I go back to the store. Maybe I will consider a smaller drive from WD. A friend of mine has one at work and he does not seem to have a problem with it.

Well trying to remove is not a problem if you have some experience of putting it in the hard drive but ,check the wire connections first of all ,but i must inform you if you dont have any idea then ask on some repair shop just the opening part inside the things are really simple it has a LED for power on and off and some simple connectors that connnect ur hard drive to the usb from which you connect it to your computer so check if you can open just the outer shell with some help!!!hope it works for you!!

I dropped my itb hitachi hard drive, it now makes a beeping sound but doesnt spin up any ideas?

Hard drives are easily destroyed by dropping them. The drive cannot be fixed. There are companies that can retrieve data off faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

I have a 500GB and a 1TB. Both drives if they work at all, is because you have to apply the power after usb is connected. The 500MB still good but the 1TB took a big dump.

Right click My Computer, Properties, then click on Device Manager.
Select Disk Drives then on tab menu Action, Add legacy hardware. Go through the setup and use CD's that came with Hard Drive otherwise search company site for drivers.

500Gb SimpleTech Ext Drive No Power

It sounds like you might have a problem with the power supply.
I have seen MANY external hard drives with failing power supplies. Take it to the store you purchased it from for a check up, it should still be under warrantee if its only 3 months old.
Good Luck!

I have a 500GB external SimpleTech HD. Tonight it

If it was running at the time it fell, the heads crashed into the platters, and the buzzing you're hearing is the dents left in the platters spinning by 7200 times a second.
Not good. Likely will need a professional service to recover the data.
