Nikon f5 theres something sticking up that won't let me put the spool in

Just bought one of these for myself secondhand and had the same problem - there is a little bit of metal (2-3mm long) sticking out at the top right hand side where the film comes out of the cassette. I found you have to slide the film in from the bottom of the camera, so the leader goes over that bit and the round bit of the canister under it, then you push the bottom of the canister in.

The new roll of film winds into the right spool upon closing back cover // brand new batteries displays 1/2 and ERR appears on led panel

Is the ERR blinking, and is there an additional blinking E on the display? If so, the film is not loaded properly.
The film is supposed to advance all the way to the take-up spool upon loading. The camera then "rewinds" one frame at a time as you take pictures. This way the camera knows exactly how many shots are left on the roll. Also, if the back is accidentally opened, the shots already taken are already in the can and won't be ruined.
If you need a manual, you may download a copy here.
Try cleaning the battery contacts and see whether the battery reads full with no film in the camera.
If problems persists, feel free to reply to this post and give any additional details.

Chronic sticking shutter on older Nikon

If the shutter doesn't stick on the M90 position, the problem is electronic. If it does, the issue is mechanical. Try the battery check. Hold it for a few seconds. If the LED goes out, the issue is most likely with the batteries. Use really fresh, top quality batteries. Use only silver oxide batteries, not the alkalines that are often substituted.

Putting film into nikon f60

It is fairly simple. Insert the film canister with the hole side (not the projection) down. Insert the spool of the camera into this hole and slide the canister inside the chamber. Now pull the film out slightly so that the leader (the narrow portion at the end of the film) aligns with the orange mark at the lower right end of the film chamber. Make sure there is no slack in the film. Close the door and turn on the camera.

Nikon F5

It's possible that there was some existing fault with the camera that led to it being disused. The lack of use led to the batteries leaking.

I suggest you find a pro camera dealership nearby and ask them to refurbish the camera. The pro stores will normally be able to rent you a temporary replacement.
