Problem with Canon PIXMA MX310 All-In-One Printer

reset Ink levels for canon mx310

Hi i have refill my cartridge and after refilling. I still have the low ink level . The cartridge is printing fine. it is just the low ink level that comes up Can i reset the ink level ? I use the 40 41 cartridge

thanks

I have a similar problem with a Canon MX310 multifunction. I recently got a signal that the color ink was low. I bought a refill kit for both color and black. I refilled the cartridges. I get a message that both carts are low. The printer prints fine in black, but does not print in color. It does not have a resume button on it. There is a stop/reset button on it, but it doesn't seem to respond to your technique.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

David

    • I tried deanrkb's solution several times and could never get the yellow light to come on and therefore the printer ink levels never reset and it won't print, copy scan or fax. Guess I will try to get my money back on the refills I bought and pay for new ink cartridges. What a rip off!!!!

    • Nope. These instructions do not work. I have an MX310 with the latest firmware. Refilled the card and it still says 'Black Ink Low' when I power it back up.

    • I just want to reset my ink cartridge sensors is this possible?

    • By avatarJHG1013 Mar 18, 2008
    • I followed the instructions and I thought it worked. Until I tried to print a document from MS word for the Mac. Then I got the error message again in the MX310 PrintManger as follows

Ink Info Number : 1686 The following ink may have run out. "Color" Replacing the ink cartridge is recommended.

Then I have to delete the document as the printer will not function.
I love the output of this Printer I guess Canon just finds ways to force you to have to purchase their ink.

    • Hi, I've got up to here:

      "Power off the printer
Hold the stop/reset button then press and hold power (for 5 secs)
Hold Power and release the stop/reset button
      Press the stop/reset button twice
      Relase power button"
But when I "Wait until the power button lights a steady/still green, press the stop/reset button three times with a 3 sec space between each press, and then on the 3rd press the indicator turns orange", I couldn't get the indicator to go steady orange. But rather, it is blinking orange in a pattern, and I couldn't proceed further.
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

All you need to do is hold the Stop/Reset button for at least five seconds. It totally works!!

    • fill the cartridges, then hold the reset button for 10 seconds.

    • I followed LeeTorian's recommendation and removed the cartridges, put them back in, closed the cover, and held down the stop/reset button for 10 seconds, and it worked perfectly. Thanks a ton to LeeTorian for such a useful and simple solution- much appreciated!!!

Refill the cartridge and insert it. Run the cleaning cycle.

With printer powered on, press and hold stop/reset button. The alarm light will flash several times (it did it 10 times for me) after that it the alarm lamp goes off and the ink level monitor is reset on the printer. The computer still thinks the ink is low.

See, the problem with the solutino supplied by deanrkb is that it completely resets the machine. EVERYTHING! Fax header, ring time - fax settings, activity reports and everything! And it reset the levels for both black and color cartridges, while I refilled only the color one and removed and put it back as indicated in the instructions, leaving the black one at it's place the whole time.

I would say thanks for trying, but this is a method to reset your machine completely, not only the ink level indicators!

For those refilling the cartridges instead of replacing them: The reader in the printer reads the scan on the ink cartridge. It does not actually read the ink level... it reads the cartridge and estimates based on usage when the cartridge needs replacing, so if you are simply refilling the same cartridge, this printer thinks it is still empty. You can buy a scanner that resets the scan on the cartridge to make it read like it is new. Then you don't have to press or hold any buttons or fight with the machine. The scanner is like $5. You can get it on eBay, at Fry's or Best Buy, on Amazon.

By the way this sites prices are cheap and the cartridges are as good as new.

Keep old cartridges and put them back in when the printer says the current cartridge is low. When the printer scans the "new" cartridge it thinks its full. This only works untill it is actually empty but you definatly get more use per cartridge or you could refill and just alternate between two different cartridges.

I guess the cartridges can be filled. In my experience, the refill stuff is not what it is cracked up to be. In fact, I have ruined more than a few printers with the off brand ink even though I followed their instructions implicitely.

If $ is a issue, give it a try. On the other hand, to preserve your printer, use (and pay) what the manufacturer requires.

If you Google printer refills, Im certainlyou will find what you are looking for. Still, my advice stands.

I hope this works for you
