My Magic Chef Fridge, model # RC24HA-3AI, which is a 24 cu ft side by side with ice maker, and is somewhere between 15-20 years old. But it is still in excellent cond. and runs quiet and cold.
My problem: The auto ice maker tray only fills with water about 1/3 the way up after each dump. I have replaced the tray and all cubes drop, the water just does not stay on long enough to fill the tray. I have replaced the water filter of course, but no help.
I figure the water fill valve would be the next logical course of action, but would like to make sure I'm not missing something else.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm now on a fixed income and I need to keep the box in service if I can.
Hi Mark,
Unfortunately the problem is in your mind.
Delusional thought processeses are a common manifestation of compulsive **** and liars.
My advice is to get a new fridge and listen to a Bee Gees record backwards.

Don't know what is the model number of your fridge. 1.Need check electric water valve under the fridge. If that fridge made by GE (Kenmore just a Sears brand name and they use several others manufacturers for refrigeration), usually it's a frozen plastic water supply line inside freezer door. You could unplug fridge for 24 hours (you have to put food from freezer to other freezer).
Your ice-maker may need to be "hard-reset". To do this, perform a manual-defrost by emptying out the freezer (and fridge) and shutting all power off to your unit for several hours (at least half a day unless you can be sure the temp in the freezer has fully reached ambient. Next, with freezer empty, restore power, make sure the "ice" setting is set to off, then set the forced power-freeze mode (you can refill the fridge, but leave the freezer empty for now. When the power-freeze completes (at least 2.5 hours) you can refill the freezer, set the "ice" mode to block/crushed (IE something other than off) and then hit the "black reset button" to restart the ice-maker. IF it still will not dump the cubes then the ice sensor/control board may have failed.
Water might be frozen in the tube that fills the ice tray. Check the tube and if it's frozen shut, use a hair dryer to heat it until the ice piece melts out. Your icemaker should work after the fridge has been closed for 24 hours to cool back down.
I believe your ice maker is the reason for the problem. If you have a model number it is possible that parts are avaiable. Sometimes the complete ice maker will need to be replaced because the controls are electronic in some model ice makers. Could you send the model number of your Whirlpool Refrigerator? Thanks, Sea Breeze
When the ice maker calls for water it'll be filling for about 7 seconds if is more the ice maker inside control board is bad , but if there's water in the ice maker all the timeeven after or before it calls for water it means that the water valve (solenoid) that supplies water to the ice maker is leaking and you have to replace it.
The solenold valve would not shut off completely & was leaking water on the paddle that the controls the icemaking. We replaced the solenold water valve & we now have ice!!!!! Good luck!
number one repair leak could be as simple as loose fitting most likely fitting needs replaced should solve problem if not once the leak is repaired pull out ice tray inside fridge in the rear you will see small outlet that fills the trays run a blow dryer full heat on it to clear it from freeze up which might be clogging your line good luck hope this helps
there is a micro switch in the ice maker motor module that shuts power off to the ice-maker water valve when the ice maker is full but i rarely see them go bad this is the easy way to deal with it pull the unit out unplug both the valves and turn the water on a sec if its running in the ice maker with the valves are unplugged then replace the valves if its not replace the ice-maker motor module
The ice mould has a very low wattage element built into it to help release the ice cubes. This heater may be faulty. Most ice-makers have no serviceable parts in them. You may have to replace the complete ice maker.
