First of all check what is the ip address of your router ,,,default is 192.168.1.1,,,but if it does not work click on start>run>type cmd >hit enter,,,in cammand prompt type ipconfig >hit enter,,,you will get default gateway address on the computer which is connected to computer,,,,type this default gateway in address bar of internet explorer not in any search engine,,,,it will ask for user name and password of router default is leave username blank in password type admin,,,if it does not work then there is no way to check wep key ,you need to reset the router to factory default ,,,and if it does,,,go to security under that there is subtab wireless security ,,you will get this wep key in key1 field,,,

Log into the router through your web browser by entering its IP address. Then under wireless security you can change the WEP key. Let me know if you need anymore details or clarification.

How do I unlock my router?? I want to add my ipod touch to my internet

If you have already setup your WEP key you would need to add that WEP key into you IPOD Touch settings.

Open up your IPOD Touch and click your Settings button. Touch your Wi-Fi option and turn on your Wi-Fi. Under Choose a Network you should see your SSID. When it ask you to put in your WEP Key just enter you key.

If you have not setup your WEP Key you need to open up a broswer and type in the following:

    http://192.168.1.1

A screen will pop up requesting your user name and password. If you have changed your password place that in. If you have not changed the password then use the default admin. Leave the username blank.

Click on the Wireless Tab. Click on the sub tab Wireless Security. Set your WEP Key.

    Hope that helps you!

Connecting my ipod touch to my wireless router through wi fi

    Hi,

Check for the password on the router configuration page to make sure tat you are using the correct one:

    1. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
    2. Access the router usually http://192.168.0.1 else try http://www.routerlogin.com
    3. Login to the router (User Name = admin Password = password unless you have changed it).
    4. Click on Wireless Settings'(under Setup) from the left menu.
    5. Check if 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)' or 'WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)' is selected under 'Security Options'.
    6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the passphrase.
    7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the Key that has a black dot before it.
This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the routers' wireless network.
Enter the same password on IPOD to connect to the wireless network.

    Asking me for wi-fi password

The wifi password is the same as wireless network key (either WPA or WEP key). That's the same password that you used when you tried to connect to the wireless network using your laptop.

Connecting Ipod touch 8(GB) to Wi-fi BEWARE SPAM NUMBER +1-800-532-4187 BELOW

After fighting with this for the last couple of hours I have my ipod touch working with the netgear DG834G(v3) router. The fix is a bit odd and I am not entirely sure why it works but I thought I would share and hopefully it might help you out …

First I think that the WEP encryption simply does not work between these two devices and causes some very strange behaviour – the WEP 'authentication type' setting I had on the 'wireless settings' page was set to 'shared key' – I flicked this to 'automatic' & strength to ‘128 bit’ - hit apply and finally I found I was able to connect without an error message (after inputting the correct WEP key). Unfortunately the DHCP did not work correctly after this and I kept receiving IP addresses in the range of 169.254.x.x (an internal default) rather than my networks expected 192.168.0.x range. The Ipod touch couldn’t find any DNS servers or connect to the internet.

To get round this I set the router ‘security options’ to use WPA instead (WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)) instead of WEP. Set the new WPA password at the bottom of the wireless settings page - again hit apply - and configured the ipod to use the new password and WPA PSK instead of WEP. This worked fine – although it does mean I have to change the settings on all my other wireless devices around the house!

The weird thing is that although the router isn’t using WEP encryption changing the 'authentication type' setting back to ‘shared key’ in the WEP menu breaks the WPA connection again – very odd? I blame netgear and their obviously crazy wep code :)
