Re: Pearl (trackball) doesn't scroll up / how to clean?
The only way to get it up and running again is physically remove and clean or replace the part. If you want somebody else to doit for you go to Blackberry Repair. If you want to do it yourself, here is a Blackberry pearl Repair Guide that shows how, the part is available on Ebay.

Trackball needs to be kept clean at all times . you can clean them with a damp cloth ( make sure water does not drip ) .
also the trackball can be replaced for a very low cost if you dare to replace it yourself .
you can buy the trackball through ebay from $1.99 .
one last option is to get a small air compressor and blow air around the trackball without forcing too much pressure .
try all this and see how you go .
I've been answering this problem for years, it is a common problem with the trackball, sometimes it will get sticky and unscrollable to certain direction, and the good news is it is easy to fix. read the source http://www.unique-stuff.co.cc/fixing_sticky_blackberry_trackball.html
Clean your trackball regularly by slightly dipping a cotton swab into rubbing alcohol and using that to clean your trackball.
Unfortunately, dirt and oils on your fingers wear out the trackball over time, causing it to behave in unpredictable ways.
I have had similar problems to this. It could have something to do with the trackball. I had been I found that by removing the trackball I could key in the password and the Blackberry behaved normally again. Then I reinstalled the trackball. Here is a link on cleaning the trackball.
I just fixed mine trackball which can only move in the vertical direction. By removing the silver cover (there are three small clips that hold it in place), the trackball and its enclosure will fall out. Carefully remove the white plastic cover (there are 2 clips that hold them in place) on the other side of the enclosure. Take out all 4 cylinders (4 magnet at the end) with tweezer and clean thoroughly. The 4 cylinders got clog with lint and dirt which prevent the ball in contact with the cylinder. This will solve your problem.
