Question about Umax Astra 3400 Flatbed Scanner
It sounds more like a software conflict or corruption probably in your registry than it does a hardware malfunction. However i found drivers at the following site i'm not sure if they're updated from what you have but i would try and see if these work.
If the problem still persists go to START click RUN type CMD and hit enter. After the "dos" window appears type in chkdsk /r and hit enter it will ask if you want the next scan completed on restart type Y for yes and hit enter. Now after rebooting your computer xp will try to restore file locations and even corrupt files it has fixed a few problems similar to yours. Hopefully this helps.
Oh and last but not least also try replacing just the .DLL file you're having trouble with if the problem still isn't corrected after doing the above. The link to replacing the .DLL file is below.
