Question about Brother MFC 210C All-In-One InkJet Printer

Brother MFC 210C All-in-One Ink Cartridges

Is there a way to continue printing even though the printer says there is near empty or empty ink cartridge? Is there a way to completely empty the ink from the cartridge? Sometimes the printer tells me to change the ink cartridge and I can still see and hear ink in the cartridge.

I only want to use BLACK, but it insists on all colors being available before it will print. Is there a setting to say "just black"?

It also seems I can't do ANYTHING until I replace cyan - no scanning or faxing (which requires no dang INK). Is this really true??

Near empty message is a reminder: plz buy a new cart (but do NOT change until EMPTY). You still can print.

the ink left in an empty cart keeps the system alive when some ink is neede for the automatic cleaning cycle.
If you print until this cart is really empty air will get into the tubes and ph. That leads to faulty printings.
brother had made sure that the amount of printable ink can be consumed. The rest is for service.

SOURCE: MFC 210C Ink Problems

Steve,

did you watch the display after replacing the cart?
Very often the machine asks if you have changed the cart and demands an answer (1 for yes).

You can try to do an update of the firmware, too. Go to www.brother.com , choose your country and then your machine. Download a small update tool and run it.

If it aint getting better:
Do unplug from power outlet (even though you have done already) wait 10 Min. leave scanner cover open and take all carts out. Plugin to power again and leave scanner open. Wait uintil machine gives a warning signal. Reinsert carts and close cover: now watch the display and give always the answer YES(1).

Do a print head alignment. This will tell the printer there's a new cartridge.

Brother MFC 210C series ink replaced

The brother machines require ink in all the cartridges as it is always flushing ink through the heads to "clean" it. This means you must have ink in all cartridges at all times unfortunately or the brother will not work. Even if you could somehow get it to work it could damage your printhead anyway.

Good Luck

Replace Cartridge,Ink Emty Black

Do use original ink carts because thirdparty ones have a different construction and wont be accepted by printer sometimes.

When (re-)inserting press ink cart into assy and clip the support over the edge.

Please check the other carts, too. They may be empty.

First ensure that none of your inkjet cartridges are empty or near empty. The machine will not perform cleaning if any cartridge is too low on ink. If the conditions are met the machine at least attempt perform the cleaning function. There is no guarantee that the print quality will improve on the first try.

Only printing black and cyan

If you have used third party carts before you can't repair this problem due to the fact that the filter inside the printhead is clogged with particles. There is no chance to clean the filter. Sorry. Do use only dye ink. Pigmented ink is the printhead killer for brother printers!

Printer not printing

Unfortunately, like most multi cartridge ink jet printers when one ink is empty the printer will cease printing regardless of whether you just want to print in black and white and you have plenty of black ink left. I have heard of people tricking the printer into believing the cartridge is full by placing coloured tape etc in front of the ink sensing device but I am not sure how the Brother senses the ink levels as i have some aftermarket ink cartridges for mine which seem to be completely non-opaque (unlike the originals). The need to have colour cartridges in even if you only ever print with black ink is good news for Brother as the MFC-210c uses a large amount of ink during it's routine cleaning cycles (that you cant stop) and will empty all 3 cartridges in under 6 months without ever printer a single drop of colour ink. Sorry about all the bad news, at least your not alone......
