No picture,perfect sound

My 12 year old SP 3220 has a black screen but perfect sound. I can't see the "Action" Menu to make picture adjustments. Is it worth trying to fix?

Picture tube life.... 5 years? I believe its a lot longer than that. My mom has a TV thats still going strong after 18 years and it runs day and night. I agree with sedonix though. Today, we live in a consumer product throw-away society where its cheaper to buy a new gadget than to repair it. We've come a long way from the days of the TV repairman and his faithful tube checker. :(

My experiance is to not put money into a TV that is over ten years old. TVs stress out their electronic components worse than almost any other electronic product. After 10 years, there are so many parts that are ready to fail that your are probably wasting your money trying to get any more life out of it.
Another option is to wholesale replace the main board from an outfit like PTS Electronics (ptscorp.com)
Be careful on buying a new one though. Often times, these new technology ones are much worse. Always Google the model number of the set you intend to buy and add the word 'repair' or 'complaint' to see if it is one of the many models that are customer service nightmares being produced by even the most reputable companies today.
Hope ya fix it!

I own a Quasar SP-3235 32" TV. It has a slight green tint after 10 years of use. How can I adjust the color screens on this set? Is it a function of the remote like Sony TVs or do I need to remove

I would open it first and look, a lot of those had both the screen and drive controls on the PCB at the end of the picture tube, at least look there first.

You are dead on in looking for the screen controls, if you find one it should only be a tiny adjustment due to age and the Crt changing a bit.

12 yr. old 25" G.E. picture fading

I gotta love it when people make up answers. There is no such thing as a "contrass module". I'm assuming the poster meant "contrast". The trouble is your 12-year-old picture tube. It's gotten weak and isn't getting as bright or sharp as it used to. Picture tube manufacturers estimate the useful life of a tube at about 7 years today. There are adjustments inside that might help some, but you need a new picture tube. It's going to cost a lot more than $60 to $75 for that. You're better off replacing the TV.

Picture is dark

sitnlisten - yes it does appear your pix tube is getting weak, but we may be able to turn up the flyback alittle to brighten up the picture. If you take the back off you will see the flyback-large black unit with a wire going to the round rubber cap on the back of the pix tube.Look at the flyback there are usually 2 adjusters one marked focus the other screen, just turn up the screen a little bit at a time.If you turn this up too much you will wind up with retrace lines on the screen. You may also want to check the pcboard ass'y for a sub bright adjust, and same thing small adjustments. If this don't help your pix tube may be too far gone.I hope this helps. cooltek Feb.1/08

WEGA 36" : Screen is low contrast and green

Sorry to say, it sounds like a bad picture tube, But could be also the capacitor that filters the screen voltage on the crt drivers. In all my years though, your complaint has been the picture tube. Good Luck.
