Do you have an internet service provider in your place? It's what you need to get permission to get connected to the internet. Buying that antenna alone won't help. But try to manipulate the DNS and IP numbers to Automatic so it scans the area for an internet availability... Go to Network connections and right-click on it, go to properties and change some settings there..

Post me back the results and rate me later... Good luck...

Hello, I do not know much about troubleshooting internet connections. I just rely on Microsoft's "Diagnose Problem" option and most often than not, it works. But when I replaced our old...

Thank you for using fixya.

Being that your other computers in the network are working properly, you should switch the ip settings on your comnputer to automatically detect. That way your computer does all the routing and ip setting,

After you have set that back. Remove the power of your router, remove the power of your modem, and restart your computer.

Once your computer is back up, turn on modem, then the router.

It sounds very simple, but in most cases, it solves the problem.

Hope this information is helpful

I want to extend the antenna on my d-link router. Reason: My computer shop is metal building, wireless signal is weak. As long as I don't short extension cable is this ok?

Instead of removing the antenna from the router you can buy a cheap working second hand router in market (better buy a second hand belkin router, because belkin provides free lifetime phone support also free lifetime hardware support for certain routers whose model numbers starts with F5D or F6D....Dont buy any belkin routers with model number that starts with F7D)

Now configure the second router as an ACCESS POINT (you can call 18002235546 to get help to change to an access point)
run a long ethernet cable from dlink router to the second router (belkin)... you can place the belkin router anywhere where the cable can reach...
The belkin router will broadcast the signal and you will get better signal strength...

Setup belkin wireless network

Hi,
1.Connect a Cat5 cable into the Ethernet port on the back of your cable or DSL modem. Plug the other end of the cable into the "Connect to Modem Internet/WAN" port on the back of the Belkin Router.
2.Connect a Cat5 cable into the "Ethernet" port on the back of any desktop or stationary computers and then plug the other end of the cable into one of the LAN ports on the back of the Belkin Router. Start with port one and work your way up with subsequent computer connections.
3.Turn the Belkin Router on by plugging the router into a power outlet. Allow 30 seconds for the router to fully boot up. All computers tethered to the modem via a Cat5 cable have access to the Internet.
4.Open the Wi-Fi Wizard on your laptop and turn on the Wi-Fi antenna. Once turned on, the Wizard finds all network connections in your area. Connect to your network to establish an Internet connection. Complete this step for each computer not tethered to the Belkin Router with a Cat5 cable.

Internet keeps getting disconnected.Computer needs rto restart

there is nothing to do with adapter... you need to check with some other laptop to isolate where is the issue...

if your laptop works fine without dropping connection then get a replacement for your belkin adapter...

if your laptop also looses connection, then you need to check your wireless router...

Set up my belkin g router

You may have to configure the belkin router depending on the type of ISP that you have.

Basically, you can do these to configure your router:

1. connect the computer to the numbered port of the router and connect the modem to the internet/WAN port.

2. turn off the modem, router and the computer for 30 seconds

3. turn on the modem first, wait for the lights to stabilize then turn on the router, wait for the lights and lastly turn on the computer.

Belkin Dongle

You have to make sure first that the working pc is getting its internet connection from the BELKIN and not from the modem. To check that, right click the computer icon at the butoom right of your screen, click detail. ip address that is ok is in this form 192.168.xx.xx. If you are getting like 74.xx.xx.xx, that means that you are getting connection from the modem. THE MODEM ONLY GIVES ONE CONNECTION, MEANING THE ROUTER IS NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY. After doing this you can give a follow up question.

Belkin router

The fact that it sometimes works and sometimes not, would indicate that maybe your wireless signal strength is poor. Try moving the router and/or antenna and recheck the signal strength. If you would provide more details about the problem and your setup it may be helpful in diagnosing the problem.
