Question about Maytag MMV4205 Microwave Oven
I have an MMV4205AAS that's about 2 years old. One day the internal light and internal fan (not the range fan) stopped working but it would still cook. I talked to a local service guy who said we could still use it as far as safety was concerned. We did for a little bit (a few days) but now there's no display or power. After reading some other posts here I'm thinking the fan that didn't work was the magnetron cooling fan and that when using the microwave the magnetron overheated and killed the thermal fuse on the magnetron thereby killing power to the whole unit. Does this sound correct? What about the initial light/fan problem? Thanks in advance.
The light isn't a safety issue but I would think that the fan would be.
The fan is designed to remove excess heat from unit and keep it cool. Without the fan, you're now operating the unit under conditions that it wasn't designed for.
With the unit unplugged, try removing the cover and see if a fuse has blown. If so, replace it with the EXACT value of the original.
See if the unit powers up again. Try heating heating up something for 30 seconds to see if the Magnetron is still functioning.
If so, check to see if the bulb is good. Did the bulb and fan stop at the same time? If so, it might be something in common that controls both.
Don't operate it further until you have it looked at. You don't want to cause something else to fail.
