There is a focus block with 6 buttons, 3 on the top and 3 on the bottom 3 controls the focus for the guns and 3 control the screen adjustment for the CRTs. It is usually located in the front underneath the screen behind the speaker panel and access panel. Some models are in the back of the TV but most are in the front.Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any more info.

I have an rca 19 inch color tv. tv turns on however picture is very dark. is there a way to fix this?

Here is the owners manual.

http://support.radioshack.com/support_video/doc72/72471.pdf

If standard adjustment procedures don't work, you will need to remove the back cover of your TV and adjust the power from your flyback which is usually located to the right side as you face the rear of the set. Be careful to touch nothing with your hands. With the power disconnected, read the writing on your flyback to select the proper dial for output. Some RCA flybacks have 2 dials. 1 for focus, and one for output. Once this dial has been located, use a non conductive screwdriver and turn clockwise slowly until your screen adjusts to the desired brightness level. If at any time during this adjustment your flyback begins to pop and arc it will be because it has reached the end of it's usefullness and is already burned out. An exception to this is if you turned the adjustment too far and the over adjustment placed too much strain on the part. Having to adjust this part in the first place means that your TV has already begun to degrade and wear and it will need to be replaced sometime soon. Other techs will tell you this type of adjustment is not advised and is risky. I tend to agree with them on principle, but not in practise. Your TV has reached an age where normal repair is too expensive to be worth the bother or expense.
If you don't feel confident to do any of the steps outlined above, then by all means do not attempt this type of repair.

If the colors appear to be aligned and the only isue is focus, than you can adjust the focus on the flyback transformer. Carefully remove the rear cover and locate the flyback transformer (part with large red wire coming out the top). There should be 2 controls/adjustment points on it. One is for screen and the other for focus. Try adjusting the focus using a mirror to see the front of the set. You should adjust the control back and forth a ferw times to "loosen" it up a bit before settling down to the focus point.

Update this with the results.

I have a sony kp-61v90 projector tv and the colors are making the red stick out, feels like a 3d, any help?i kalld a tv repair which charged me $50 and said to repair $350 which is pretty crazy....help

i'm assuming that your complaint is the red is predominant over the other colors- if it is a rear projection set, there are three tubes [r,b,g], and each one has its own flyback with a focus and 'g2' control on it. try backing down the red g2, and if the picture is too dark, turn down the color control [so you should have a black and white pic], then adjust the g2 controls until you have a satisfactory black and white pic- after that, when you turn the color back up, you should have a good pic. sometimes. adjusting the g2 can affect the focus, and there is a focus control on the flyback. there are also optical focus [moveable lenses] on each tube, but they are primarilly for initial setup of the set, and should never have to be adjusted, unless the tube has been replaced. fyi- i happen to have a complete set of sony rear projection tubes [r,b,g] complete with lenses and neck coils i am currently trying to sell, but it doesn't sound like you need tubes at this time, but it's something to keep in mind, because these tubes are becoming extremely rare and hard to find, and cost upwards of close to a thousand dollars a piece, i'm selling the complete set for four hundred dollars. good luck!

if you have little knowledge about electronics, you have to open the back of your tv and adjust the focus adjustment located at the back of the flyback transformer the large black colored like hard plastic... and if it is still not working replace the CRT socket....

RCA P46921. Just changed flyback.

First, this assumes nothing else is going on to cause it. Here's what I did. Go to the 'green grid' via the v76 menu and go through the alignment there. Notice that there are red letters, blue letters, and a green grid. While you are in this screen, adjust the red, green, and blue focus watching the individual color's item until they are in focus. If they won't focus here, they won't focus and you have something else wrong (what I do not know). Then, return to normal programming, then select menu on the remote, then screen, then adjust projection tv convergence both horizontal and vertical crosshare. That ought to get it.

Hello paulaspec,

You have a problem with the three factors, and they are screen voltage, focus voltage, and control (focus 2) voltage. Basically these voltages have to be adjusted since the components in this section have aged some. These controls are usually located in the television on the IHVT (Integrated High Voltage Transformer) or as it is also called the flyback transformer. these controls must be adjusted together, along with the color controls. Here is how the adjustment is done (You will need a schematic diagram, a DC volt meter, and a color bar generator to do these measurments):

1) turn color and tint fully counter clockwise until you have a black and white picture.

2) connect the color bar generator to the TV (ch 3) and turn it on, you should see bars in various shades of gray

3) adjust as best as possible the color and tint controls to obtain the color bars on the screen Red Green Blue.

4) measure the voltages on the focus, screen and control grids of the CRT and match them to the schematic digram measurements.

5) adjust the focus screen and control grids to match the ones on the schematic diagram

6) once this is done then you adjust the color controls once again to obtain the red green and blue bars on the TV screen.

This should help if the CRT (picture tube) electron guns are still good and if the flyback transformer voltage supply is working.

However if you do not have a background in electronics please take the TV to a shop for repairs.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Did you adjust the two controls on the new flyback? The top one is almost always the focus control and the bottom is the G2/screen control (brightness) If you adjust the G2 do it until the picture looks normal, too high and you will get retrace lines through the picture.
