The Intel 850 Socket 478 will help but what is needed first is the model number. Ex: "Gateway GZ7108", the Serial Number would be best. If you do not know where the serial number is you can click the link below & pick a Pc from the list that looks like your.
Once the serial number is found and added to the search a manual can be searched for a download.

I need to set up RAM on GATEWAY ATXAEG LX3 700S P04 for first time. What is the correct placement of RDRAM.

RDRAMs have to be installed in pairs (at least in my case I think) but can the two pairs be of different capacity? as in:
64,64 - 256,256
(Upgrading 2 64mb RDRAM to 2 256mb RDRAM)

I cant get the HDD LED to work... yes it is hooked up right...

Some of the wires going from the power switch, reset switch, speaker, and LEDs must be attached to the motherboard the correct way. That is, they must not only be placed in the right spot where they need to go, but they also must be connected with positive and negative wires on the right pins.

If your HDD LED is not lighting up when the HDD is "thinking", try reversing the cable where the HDD LED wire plugs in (just flip it so the black wire is where the non-black wire was). I tried to find a good picture of your motherboard to guide you but they were not very helpful. From squinting really hard, I believe the spot they should plug into the board is by the CMOS battery. There might be printed words on the board surrounding the area to connect them that tells you which two pins are for the HDD LED.

Gateway Intel 850 Socket 478 ATX Motherboard Power Supply

Please use the following as a reference: ATX12V Power Supply Design Guide,

Sections 4.5.2 and 4.5.3 (Page 38) list the signal and wire colors for the +12V2DC (2x2 pin) and Peripheral (Molex) Connectors. Figure 11 (page 36) shows diagrams of the connectors and pin-outs for reference.

Most likely, you are looking for the 2x2 pin connector; pins 1&2 are common (black wire), pins 3&4 are +12V2DC (yellow wire w/black stripe)
