Hey new buddy, CoolDr. I see you are the computer guy, so I thought I would direct this one to ya. I have a Dell Dimension Dim 3000 with an Intel Celeron 2.4ghz cpu. I tried to upgrade my RAM from 512mb to 2gb (2 x 1gb sticks). I purchased them and they were the same specs except that the 512 in the computer said pc3200u and the ones I purchased sadi pc3200. The new sticks and the old stick all are 400mhz 184pin DDR. The only difference is that the old one has the "u" at the end of it. Does that make a difference, I have seen them listed on eBay in the same listing as pc3200 and pc3200u, so I thought they were the same.
Now the problem. When I install them, the warning buzzer sounds, like it does if the RAM is not fully seated. I have tried the 1gb sticks together and individually in each of the two slots, and same results everytime. I put the origional 512mb stick back in, and it works good (I'm using the computer now).
Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated. I bought the sticks off eBay and hate to be out money if the guy didn't have them listed right and they should have worked.

- Thanks. The RAM I bought probably isn't compatible, even though it has the same information.
Does it matter that my origional 512mb states unbuffered and the new 1gb sticks don't have that u on it?
At least the guy I bought from says he guarantees satisfaction and will take returns on it.
If this one isn't compatible, I can always return to him and he has a more that he guarantees compatible, though I can only double my RAM with that one.
I appreciate your help.Jan 31, 2008
- You mean that the ram installed together makes a difference. But it doesn't matter for the compatibility going from the old single 512mb and the two new 1gb. Now if these never work out and I have to just go with a second 512mb, I will have to make sure it is unbuffered, right?Jan 31, 2008
- Nice, thank again for helping so quick Cool. I am just waiting to hear back from the guy I bought from. Worst case scenario, if he doesn't do a complete replacement, He charges a 5% restocking fee which isn't too bad. I just wish I new whether they were incompatable or just DOA. Again, I do appreciate it.
I hope you like answering a lot of pc questions, becuase as I come up with them they will be directed to you first, and if you can't solve it, then I will look elsewhere.
