I took my camera to D.C. to sightsee and the screen went black the next day. Interestingly, my friend had a Nicon in her purse and reported that she had the same problem. We went to a museum and a security guard put an electronic probe in our purses. Could this be the problem?

My SD30 now has a "Picasso looking" LCD in all modes. No error codes, but the LCD has a white background with an irregular black blotch on it, also a few smaller blotches. The lens projects and retracts OK and I can download pictures, but the LCD is useless. Changing batteries, banging on it, etc. doesn't seem to change the problem.

When you say you can take the picture...do you mean that you are able to take pictures and they successfuly come out when you transfer them to your computer?

Then it sounds like there may be an error with your CCD (what comverts the light going into your camera into a digital picture, like digital film). even if your warranty is expired canon may still repair this for free. Contact canon at 1-800-OK-CANON and explain to them the problem and that you think the CCD may be defective.

Black screen; lens won't shut; totally not working now

Sound like the sensor or recoding electronics are bad. The camera is most likely beyond economical repair and I would buy a new one.

Since your two cameras have the same problem with the same computer, I would like to suggest you to connect those cameras to another computer. It looks like the problem is on the computer side.

I bet you can't solve this.

We have a Canon A520 and it was having all the symptoms noted. Searched for a resolution on numerous sites including the Canon Support site. While on the Canon Support site, I found an FAQ on "How to RESET the A520". Turn camera on, find and hold MENU button for 5+ seconds until "Reset settings to default?" screen appears. Arrow over to OK and press the SET button. When we did this the battery low indicator showed, replaced batteries with standard alkaline batteries. Everything functions properly, with no additional problems for the past 5 days. I guess the camera just lost its mind and had to be defaulted and rebooted, hope this helps.

Powershot SD30 taking blurry pics.

dust could have gotten insode making the focus lens to stick.

you might have to take it to a camera shop for a good cleaning.

dusty places are always bad for electronics.

but sounds like the focus lens is failing, there might be an option to clean the lens electroniclly, most canon has the option. not sure about sony.

good luck

Everything is blurry and out of focus

error code e18 means that the focus motor gears a jammed, dirt or grain of sand in them. you can try to fix it by gently banging the camera on somthing soft, their are also instructions on web on how to disasemble and fix this fault. BUT unless you have some skills, the right tools and conditions i would not attempt it. leave it to the experts
