If you look at the Brother website you will find a trouble shooting guide for your machine.

In the guide, for the error you quote Brothers guidance is to check for a stuck piece paper, however it also states that if the print head is hard over to one side (righthand side if memory serves me correct), then to contact Brother. If you do so, Brother will tell you it needs to be serviced by a Brother agent, which will likely cost you more than a new one !

If it isnt a stuck peice of paper, the problem is due to the fact that Brother machines excessively self-clean. Each time they self-clean a small amount of ink is dumped in to a holding tank/sponge. When a predefined number of self-clean operations have been performed, the machine refuses to print and gives the error message you have stated. Brother state that the tank/sponge must be replaced before the counter is reset.

However, there is a way of reseting the self-clean counter yourself - if you Google your model number and the error code soemwhere in the results you'll find how to do it. The only risk of doing this without changing the tank/sponge is that it will eventually overflow and leak out the bottom, but I did my Brother all in one some time ago and have had no problems yet.

Clean unable

The flaw in your printer is mechanical, I suggest you take it with a technician.

Well, first, find out if there is nothing stuck or broken at a glance

When I print on my HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer the far right(1 inch) of the page is faded and is unable to be read. I have replaced the ink cartridge but it doesn't help

Have you cleaned the print heads? There should be a program that came on the drivers disk that includes a "service" tab where you can align and/or clean the print heads automatically. If they are particularly dirty and have never been cleaned, you may have to run it through two cycles to get it right.

Brother DPC-165C has 'Init Unable AF' error

Yup. I suspect the head has been removed from the unit. There are adjustments on some printers. It was assembled wrong. The grating noise is likely the auto cleaner. If it cannot go 'home' the unit will not initialize. Possibly the head detect sensor is broken or covered. If the head will not home (moves out and back more than once or slams home hard), 'Init Unable AF'. You may be able to order a service manual from Brother for this. A repair shop can order the manual as well. (I suspect you need a new print head as well. You might want to replace the printer) see tips on bubblejet printers.

Printer error UNABLE TO PRINT 51

51 says the cleaning assembly on the right is not movig properly, the first check is for a paper wad caught on the right where the printhead parks. If you can pull the printhead out of the corner, look inside for paper scraps. If the printhead is stuck on the right, don't force it, but unplug the printer when the head is out of the corner to check.

Error message says unable to clean. print head is stuck at far right side. how can I release print head? Thanks. Jim

Nov 18, 2009 - Thanks! This solution got the printer working again: Thanks, cene765. Best Solutionposted on Oct 28, 2009 cene765 Rank: Guru Expert Rating: 89%, 343 votes Unplug the printer from power cord.Press and hold the "menu" button, then plug the device. You'll see on the LCD screen a "machine error" code.If this code is 40,41 or 4F the print head is defective. If the error is 50 or 51 there is error in Purge unit and printer require service. If the error is 46 the waste ink tank is full.Follow this: Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.This will reset the purge count value. Then restart the printer, hopefully without the annoying cannot clean message

Brother .unable to clean.brother dcp340cw.have

the message unable to clean comes from either the print head being stuck in the machien for one reason or another, or the sponge insode the machine is full full of ink. you can try unplugging the machine for an hour or two and seeing if that clears the problem but you will probably need service on the machine

Canon MP970 how to remove print head to clear small pieces of stuck paper?

Make sure the unit is powered off before continuing.

On the right hand side of the print head holder - just to the right of the print cartridges is a lever. If you raise this lever the print head can be removed. When you have cleaned off the debris carefully replace the head and then lock the lever in position. Then run nozzle check, cleaning cycle then a head alignment process before printing again.

4F unable to print

I have a similar problem, nothing stuck in the printer. It needs a new print head (costs more than a new printer).
