When you first setup a wireless router you need to connect the wireless router to the computer with a LAN cable.
Then you open a browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer and on the address bar you type the IP configuration address of the wireless router eg. for Netgear and D-Link wireless it is
http://192.168.0.1Enter the default login name and password.
You should change the password and you should setup WAP or WAP2 encryption (WAP2 is the strongest encryption) and change the SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
For further wireless protection enable MAC address filtering. The MAC address of the wireless card is entered in the router MAC address filter table, which allows only the wireless card with this MAC address to connect to the router.
The wireless card on the computer needs to be configured with the wireless router's settings. The LAN cable can be removed and the computer communicates wirelessly with the router.
