I bought a 1GB xD card and loaded it with pictures until recently deciding to download. Initially everything looked normal (I typically open the camera as a folder and do a straight drag and drop to a folder on my computer) but then I noticed it stopped making thumbnails about halfway down. I started over and now the order of the pictures seems jumbled (the ones I can see anyway) and no matter what I try, I get the error that the source file cannot be found or read. Anyone have any suggestions?! Seems like the data is there, but maybe the table of contents file is screwed up?

Re: cannot read xD card
Sounds like th FAT (file allocation table) is corrupt, its like the table of contents and if it goes, there is no way the camera knows where it put the pics, there is data recovery programs available online that can help. All is NOT lost....

Your problem is that you have purchased an incompatible memory card.
The largest capacity xD card which your camera can use is 1GB, but it works better with a maximum of 512MB as 1GB can make the camera operations a little sluggish.
There are no updates to enable your camera to use the latest xD cards as the limitation is a hardware issue due to evolving technology.
therefore only have two fixes: replace the xD card with a maximum 1GB capacity
(but preferably 512MB), or replace your camera with one of the recent models
which accepts the 2GB xD card.

It sounds like your XD card is corrupted. How and why i couldn't tell you. You will need to get the pictures recovered from the card using a special software (image recovery software, can down load for free from some web sites, or some companies can try and do it for you) and then try and format the card in the camera. DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD BEFORE YOU RETRIVE YOUR IMAGES. If you do all traces of the images may be lost.
Have you sent the camera to olympus for the free upgrade to enable the xd 512gb and 1gb card? go to the olympic site and then to their support page for c-50zoom and look for instructions for the upgrade, you must have the product ID from the package and the sales receipt and make sure you have purchased the olympus sponsored card mfg. This is listed in the instructions. They get the job done pretty quick and pay for the return shipping.
