Kettle Philips type hd 4686 leak

If the leak is under the kettle just replace it with a new one. Water and electricity are a DANGEROUS mixture. There is a VERY high risk of electrocution and of fire if you keep using this kettle. New ones are usually cheap enough for a basic kettle.

Leakage problem at the bottom? Toastess International Kettle Model: TJK-103...

Leakage problem at the bottom…
Toastess International Kettle
Model: TJK-103 120V, 60 Hz, 1500 W
She was complaining that our kettle was leaking a bit at the bottom.
Warranty is over.
Here is what I did to fix the problem.
Unplug the kettle and empty it completely.
Remove excess residual water inside.
Remove the bottom cover by removing the screws holding it.
Gently remove the plastic ring screwed in place.
Now you will be able to put your hand inside the kettle and push the bottom out, toward the outside of the unit.
Take out the rubber seal and clean it. Ours was full of fine residue…
Gently dry it out and lube it with tiny bit of silicon.
Clean the inside part of the kettle before putting everything back together.
Make sure that you don’t squeeze any wires inside.
With a lot of patience, put everything back in place.
Make sure that the seal is perfectly installed. You can see it looking trough the plastic.
Kettle is now fixed and she is happy! ;-)

There seems to be a loose connection between base and bottom of kettle . At first I could press down on the pot and it would start heating . Now I can

If it uses a detachable base to the kettle tank with electrical contacts, sometimes the base or kettle connector must be replaced. You will need the proper tools and wire connectors to be able to replace these parts.

Technically speaking... These are not worth servicing.

My Phillips kettle does not boil water but the light turns pOn. It is electric

Very simply, it sounds like the element has blown. If the element is built into the base of the kettle I am afraid it is terminal, if it is a calrod type element that you can see in the kettle, it can be replaced.

I have a Philips HD4686 1.5 litre kettle I live in Fuerteventura Canary Islands and I purchased my Kettle on 28 November 2008 for 63 euros from Nortysur in Corralejo and have not had any problems with...

I am not sure if you have a copy of the user manual for this kettle. In any case you can download it from. The figures mentioned in the decriptions are on page 158.

Now coming to the problem. The most obvious cause is the thermostat that controls the temperature is not working anymore.

But there could be other factors that could be investigated before making any conclusions.

1. Do you descale the kettle regularly - see page 13 of the manual What about the filter? is it clean.
2. Are you able to set the desired water temperature before you press the On button. Use the set temp button and see if you can change the settings - it could be stuck at a lower level and does not start the heater.
If problem is not going away after 1 or 2 above then you will have to contact the Philips service.

I presume you will have to refer to the local retailer in Canary Islands or refer to Philips in Portugal. The product may still be under warranty.

Automatic switch off not working when water reached boiling.

There is no do it yourself fix for this problem. However, placing a folded cloth on top of the kettle (covering the spout) will cause it to switch off quicker, as it increases the pressure inside the kettle.
