I have a 1999 Grand Caravan with start up problems

I have a 1999 Grand Caravan sitting in a carport, outside in Wisconsin winter weather, It has just recently started to act up on cold starts. It seems to be starved for fuel and takes several attempts to keep it started and sometime pressing the accelerator pedal down helps get it going and than let it run above idle. We run E-85 fuel so I know water should not be a problem. Once hot it works fine so far. Any ideas on problem? Thinking fuel pump. Would there be a code if a fuel pump is going bad?

If you dont already I would highly recommend pluging it in a night if it has a block heater it helps to keep the block warmer and this will keep most moister from regular use from freezing in the electrical connections under the hood also try using a fuel anti freeze if there is the slightest bit of moister in the lines it will cause a rough start and it takes 35seconds of above idle running for the vehicles fuel injection programing to reset it self and run smoothly, also have the battery checked it could just have a weak moment until the alternator kicks in to recharge it from the start-up so I would recommend having the battery check cold so it hasn't had the boost from the alternator yet.hope this helps.

My Dodge caravan will not start when cold.

the entire system must be in good working condition for a vehicle to start in cold weather. Strong battery, clean cable connections at the battery, good starter, clean/gapped plugs, clean injectors, good plug wires, clean fuel filter, clean air filer, and good gas. If a vehicle sits with a partially filled tank for long periods, condensation can form in the tank and freeze. Use gas line antiifreeze in the winter.

I live in Wisconsin and my 1994 Subaru Legacy will not start in the winter when it's cold. I have had no problems in the Spring, Summer and Fall but when the temperature outside goes below 15-20 degrees...

Keep the gasline antifreeze in for moisture at the pumps and if not running 5W30 weight oil could make a differance as well.........Hope this helps.

1993 dodge caravan 3.3 v6 on days when outside temps are higher than 70 degrees after driving for a while if rpm's get below say 1200 car will stall out and after 20 mins. it will restart but will stall...

What does it do, if you try to accelerate when this starts to happen? If it dies, sputters or is sluggish, I'd start by changing fuel filter, and if that doesn't help, have fuel pressure tested when (if at all possible) this begins to happen. Had similar problem, winter was fine, hot weather it would die, and restart after 20 minutes or so, then go a fair distance again, then same thing. Fuel pump was on it's way out and when it got hot, fuel pressure would drop. First thing in the morning when fuel in tank and pump was cool, ran like a charm, but on way home from work, after sitting on a hot day, fuel got warm/hot, and pump heated up and that's when it started. Carried a fuel pressure gauge with me. Fuel pressure when cool, was 49 psi, and when it got hot, eventually dropped off to 2 psi. Sat for 20 minutes, jumped back up to 49psi, took off for home, then would eventually get lower and die again. Changed pump and filter, all was well. Try filter first, you have nothing to lose, and it should be changed if pump replaced later anyway.

Car sputters at start up in wet or damp weather

spray your distributor wires and cap with silicone spray. If this does not work you will have to replace distributor cap as it will have a hair line crack in it.

1998 Catera will not start if it sits overnight in cold weather

It can be worn distributor cap/rotor or coolant temperature sensor.
To check it leave car outside, try to activate if it is not use the hair fan and worm up the distributor cap area

If it helps replace the distributor cap/wiring/spark plugs. If it doesnot help warm up the coolant temperature sensor:

and, if no help, spurk plug area.
Also good idea in cold weather use higher octane fuel or regular with octane booster or injectror cleaner added and ask the mechenic to put winter oil (less viscous) for winter time during oil change.
Good Luck
