Not sure, but consider it just like a regular land line phone. So connect the line to the modem and plug a phone to the line port. You should get dial tone. The modem may need to re-seated or re-installed if there is no dial tone.
If your modem is fried, this can result in a dead line... disconnect the line from the computer and test the line with a phone... if the tone is present, then connect the line back to the pc... If the line goes dead, you have a faulty modem or corrupt drivers
Try to make a new connection shortcut and make sure your telephone line is properly connected on your modem. Also make sure that your password and username is correct. another thing is check that your system date is correct.. Hope this works ! ITTech7574
I know this sounds obvious but make sure it's plugged in. I'm guessing your on dial up. I would recommend upgrading to adsl as dial up is very rare these days. Can probably go on a 1 gig plan for cheap. Otherwise ring your internet service provider, they should give you free support, just tell them your user name and password.
Good morning! It's common to a Dial-Up connection to drop the line during session as signal strength is going low eventhough modem is working properly. Please try to use DSL / Broadband connection as signal strength is 1Mbps or greater. best regards.
Generally this is an indication of a modem failure. If there have been any storms in your area, then the modem may have been zapped. The dial tone curcuit is normally the first casualty when a modem gets hit with more power than normal.
Provided that your telephone is functional on that line (Unplug modem, and connect a handset if this is a modem only line and see if the handset gets a dial tone, this is a good check to make sure the line is functional)
Error 680 meals no dail tone!, 1. is the phone cable modem plug into the modem port and the phone jack. 2. do you have a dial tone, when you pick up the receiver. If you heard a dial tone, is it continuous? 3. are you using DSL Modem? or broadband connection? If you have another cable available, try it. A bad cable could be the problem.
check the modem. Is it turned on? When you try to dial out, are the
lights blinking? If they’re not, the modem might be damaged. If it’s
possible, attach another modem to see if that solves the problem.
Error 680--- No dial tone
A) Test modem by dialling a number through HyperTerminal or phone dialler. This will test the Modem without using Dialup Networking.
B) Make sure you are using the correct and/or original cable. Some modems used specific wiring which is not compatible with standard modem cables.
C) Check that you phone line is working with a normal phone.
D) Make sure the phone line you are trying to dial on is not a non-standard line, this can cause problems also.
E) If all the above are OK then get a new modem or test in a different location.
