If you have a dial tone when your computer is not plugged in, then the problem ls with your computer[ a possible short in the computer] the phone cord to the jack, or anything in between such as a dsl modem.if you have dsl, be sure your ethernet cord [ that's the wider plug cord] is in the wider jack in back of the computer. it wont fit in the regular phone jack.if you have dial up, be sure the phone cord is in the regular jack not the ethernet port.[if you have one]

good luck

In setting up new modem I am not getting sound. How do I turn sound on.

what is the model number of modem . What type of modem is it. If it is a DSL modem or a cable modem they do not make sound. It is only the old dial up on the telephone line type modems that make a sound as they are analogue devices. If it is a dial up modem then you need a terminal program to send the modem hayes commands to turn on the speaker.

Why can i not dial out on my home phone

Need a lot more information: Do you have Dial Tone? Are you using a touch-tone phone (and if so, is it an old one), do you hear tones?

Too many possibilities for a simple answer.

I have a phone line hooked to my modem, is there anywhere on the back of the computer i can plug the phone itself?

It depends on the modem. If yours has a phone out jack it'll be next to the line in jack.

Is there anywhere on the back of the computer i can plug a phone

some computers have ..but it is just for dial up connection to the internet ..if you have a line in the modem.. and your provider supports phone lines..you can use that with no problems ..but get in touch with the provider and make a demand in this sense..

How do i get the sound to work?

Sound has to be connected to the monitor. Plug the audio cable from the monitor into the green audio jack on the computer at the back. Make sure the sound is configured for stereo and not 7 channel surround. Turn up the volume on the monitor(if there is a control) and turn up the volume on the computer.

Getting my internet explorer to work?

Hi

Thank you for your query

The reason that you are getting this message is because internet explorer (IE) is looking at your LAN connection as the default connection.

to change this and to point it towards your dial up please do the following

1) click Start>Control Panel>Internet Options
2) In the internet options window click on the tab that says connections
3) half way down the page there will be a option that says 'always dial my default connection' put a dot in that box
4) Click apply/OK and next time you click on IE your dial up box will come up andask you to connect

If this has been useful please leave positive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank you again

A cable is not plugged into the network Adapter "Local Area onnection" where is the local area connection suppose to go?

This just means, that you don;t have a phone line, or a RJ45 line
plugged into the computer.

If you have a cable modem, then a line (rj45) runs from the modem
to the Ethernet port in the back of the computer.

You need to plug something in or us wireless to get on to the internet.

So it depends on what service you have depends on what you plug it.

If you need anymore help just post back, let us know what service you use.

Cable,phone, satellite.
