The errors often occur because changes in HOME's settings conflict with the XL340S. Resetting HOME to the default settings, which requires deleting specific folders from your computer, should clear up most error messages. When returning to the default settings doesn't resolve the error, the cause of the conflict is due to the software programming or how you are using the software. TomTom's support website has information on which folders you need to delete to reset the device, and information on resolving specific error messages when a reset doesn't work. how about a data sync cable?
Go to tomtom.com to download the HOME application. If you have a CD the application is there too. Install HOME on you computer then connect your XL340s to the computer. When it asks you if you want to connect to the computer tap yes. Home will recognize it and automatically searches for updates. You have a 30 day guarantee for the latest map (30 days from time of first use). Let it search and install any map update you are entitled to. After that explore the Home application. Try all options to familiarize yourself with its functionalities. YOU CAN ALWAYS click CANCEL or BACK. You can accept the MapShare corrections. You can download different voices, Points of Interests and such things.
The TomTom XL 340-S uses the power button as a reset. With the unit turned off, hold down the power button for approximately 15 seconds, until the TomTom turns on. As soon as the unit turns on, release the power button. The unit is now reset.
You need to use a "Computer" Voice I believe Susan is the female option and Richard is the male option. Only the computer voices can read street names.
I just hung up with TOMTOM support. If you have the first edition TOMTOM you need the EZ Port Mount Kit for the 1140, 1140S, XL340 or XL340s. Not it isn't rocket science, but it would have been nice to have clear compatability information on the box. Hope this helps.
