Firestore FS-4 no longer recognized as external drive by Macs

Mac computers running OS X 10.4.11 are no longer recognizing Firestore FS-4 DV Recorder as a drive when it's hooked up via firewire cable. We used the repair disk utility on the Firestore and reformatted the drive, but it did not help.

Can't get computer to recognize zip drive

Steve, The 1st thing is to install the correct driver for the 100 on the computer you are using. Is it a Mac or PC? What model of computer is it. I have been able to use the Zip100 disks with an older IIGS and some older Macs (Performa and Mac SE) with no problems. I have had no experience with the PCs. The disks formatted as FAT16 or FAT32 can be read by both Mac and PC. Those formatted for the PC can also be read by Macs if PC Exchange is installed. Mac disks cannot be read by a PC.
Write back with more info to clarify your exact situation.

Lacie 300790 that my Mac won't recognize

the Mac may not recognize it if it is formatted with NTFS. I believ most Macs can read FAT32 and other formats but not NTFS. You could hook the drive up to a modern PC, transfer the files there for a while, format the external drive to FAT32 and copy the files back to the drive. The Mac shold read them now,

My mac does not recognise firestore fs-4. the Batt was dead but it turns on and stays lit while I have it plugged in to the computer.(ibook G4)

Hi,

if you mean the battery on the mac went dead and now the external drive won't recognize but otherwise acts normally then the formatting on the drive is likely damaged from shutting down in the middle of sommething it was doing.

You two main options you can try. DiskWarrior can be purchased through any Mac store, if it is a simple fault it will be able to repair the logical problems on the drive. If this doesn't work or you'd prefer to have a pro do the work on the drive for you reply back with your location(Country, State, City) and I will point you in the direction of a nearby pro.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Firestore FS-4 does not show up when connected

I own three FS-4 and one of them has the same problem. Two of them connect no problem. The third one says the connection is successful but windows doesn't recognize it. After playing around a bit it appears that I am not getting a good connection with the 6 pin firewire output on the Firestore. I find that with repeated attempts and carefully holding the cable in various positions, I eventually get it (reminds me of analog TV antennas when you have to be in just the right position to get a channel in clearly). The good news is, once it is recognized, it stays recognized until the need for the next download.

So for my unit, I think I simply have a bad jack. Hope this helps.
