You may want to just try drying it out, put it someplace warm with airflow. I have forced air heat so in my case I would put it by a air duct. Let it dry for 12 to 24 hours, then try again. Let us know how it goes, and we'll see what else we can do.

Is it just the keyboard or the whole unit?

I'd suggest taking it in for servicing. A tech will be able to determine if the unit is salvagable and this may be cheaper then a new unit. Sorry

If you have some special electronic cleaner and/or lubricant you might try carefully spraying the inner workings of the "p" switch on keyboard. If that does not do the trick I am afraid you will have to replace the entire keyboard.

To determine if the keyboard is faulty ot the keyboard controller chip on the motherboard is faulty, connect an USB keyboard to your laptop. If this USB keyboard functions correctly then the laptop keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If this keyboard also malfunctions the the fault is on the laptop's motherboard.
You may be able to get it repaired under warranty.

New asus computer. No dollar sign. Keyboard

Call ASUS directly.....sounds like you have something amiss that would be covered by warranty.

Have you tried using a different keyboard? If you have, or do, and the problem is still there is a problem with the computer or software....Call ASUS directly and they will get ya fixed up..they are good people.

Keyboard for my ASUS Eee PC 1000H is not working

Hello, I'm not actually sure if you can do this by yourself, or you might just have to get a technician to fix it for you.
What I would suggest that you should do is to get a replacement keyboard for the laptop, you can even buy it from an electronics store by yourself and get a technician to fix it for you (If you cant do it by yourself), this way it would be cheaper.
This is because it is not always advisable to try and repair a laptop keyboard, because one way or the other, it would still develpo problem again. So its better you change it outright and put the inconvenience behind you.
Hope this helps.
Goodluck!

My ASUS X51RL laptop has water damage to the keyboard.

Yes, why not !

It is maybe better to find the same new add on keyboard, or any other but with same connector (USB or PS/2)
Disconnect the broken Keyboard, connect the new one (on the same place and turn ON your Asus.

Regards.

Which notebook to buy?

I'd ask your professors which one they recommend and if they don't have a recommendation ask them what they use or better yet what they would like to use if they could afford it!
good colleges should recommend a compatible laptop that will easily sync with their school system!
