have you had any virus infections? I would download malware bytes and rootkit revealer to see if you have any viruses or rootkits you should email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and you might have a rootkit that is causing issues with the dvd read/write. otherwise a failing device. you could also burn puppylinux on a cd, run it and see if you can pop in a dvd and see if it reads the media. if so you are looking at a windows software file or virus issue.
Normally no drivers are needed for CD drives other than the ones built into Windows. It might be a dirty lens that is causing the trouble. When the tray opens on a laptop CD drive the lens is exposed and can get touched or exposed to dirt. Try gently cleaning it with a cotton swab to brush off the lens. If the problem continues, the laser may have worn out and is too weak to read now. You can find replacement drives online, or use a USB plug-in external drive.
I had the same problem. Go to the link below and follow the directions. Don't worry if you don't have a lower limit directory. I didn't and it still worked. Before restarting go to the device manager and uninstall the driver. I have a similar computer to yours and when I restarted it automatically reinstalled the driver.
I have the same problem. Has anyone found a solution? I have an HP Notebook dv6700 with a Pioneer DVDRW [DVR-K17B ATA Device]. For the past few months I haven't been able to burn anything to disc. I can't find any firmware updates online. I'm not sure if I need to buy a new drive?
This is my error in report viewer for my dvdrw in laptop. dvdrw icon is hide and it can't read any disk dvd/cd. PLEASE HELP ME! THANKFUL " Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run. The problem code is 39. "
