My nextech esdvd100 stopped recognize dvd/cd: message-no disk. I did use laser lances cleaner, doesn't work. It doesn't recognize any disk. It looks like speed of disk is slow.

Mine started doing this just the other day and stopped playing the DVD it was playing. I found a solution for a portable player that worked on this one. You need to open it, eject the tray and slide the laser carriage back and forth all the way two or three times gently and by grabbing on to plastic that hooks around the metal bar on the right if you are facing the player from the front. Then plug it in and play a CD all the way through and this recalibrates the laser.

I wonder how many people throw away their DVD players when this is all it needs. Makes me sick to think about it.

I should add that the solution I posted above does not work alone. My esdvd100 did the clicking and no disc thing again and this time I had to take a q-tip with just a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol on it and very gently clean the laser lens first. It's better to not dry it with the dry side of the q-tip because you may scratch it and the alcohol dries quickly anyway. I did this after I noticed a fine layer of grainy dust on top of the metal housing of the laser lens/apparatus. I also did this many times before moving the laser carriage back and forth last time but did not mention that because it did not fix it alone the last time.

It seems that both actions have to be performed. It may also affect playback if your player is on a slant or the cover is off of the player. I am not sure but expereinced issues with these two conditions. It wasn't until the player was level and the cover in place (but not screwed in) that things went completely back to normal.

I would edit my solution above but I don't see a button for editing.

The latest solution that I arrived at is to thoroughly saturate the q-tip with alcohol and press the excess out on the inner side of the bottle, clean the lense gently, then dry with the dry side of the q-tip. I am not sure if moving the carriage in and out is necessary. However, mine starts acting up again within a few weeks.

I am going to look into making sure that the disk is spinning level and make adjustments if it isn't. I just fixed a three disc stereo system that had fallen out of whack. The disc was spinning on a tilt, rubbing against the tray. I had to raise the back end of the lower clamping part that housed the spindle and laser until it was level then it was alright.

Other possible issues are the motor needing oiled or the ribbon cable becoming disfunctional (not attached or burned up).

I have a Digital Home Theater HT-DS400 Samsung. I have problems in reading a music CD or a DVD. You can read the message "Loading.." for a while and then stops and reads "NO DISC". ...

  • Make sure you have a non home made DVD. Some DVD players will not play DVD'S in certain formats.
  • If you have a normal DVD in the DVD player and are getting "NO Disk" then there is a real good possibility the lens is just so dirty that it is not recognizing your DVD at all. This happens a lot to all disk players that are neglected from the cleaning process. Get a disk player cleaner and run it through a few times until the disk is read again. Sometimes the lens is so dirty you have to try a few times just to get the cleaner disk itself to play just to do the actual cleaning. Make sure to run that cleaner disk through once a week. These disk cleaners "sweep" the lens and work well. You can get one at your local Best Buy for $8usd.
  • The last thing it could be is that somehow the lens has come out of alignment. Just a millimeter out of alignment is all it takes to not be able to read a disk and DVD players get bumped and knocked off the shelf easy. So this can happen often especially with the more smaller travel DVD player.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

My RCA RTD317 has problems recognizing most DVD movie disks. It will play some disks most of the time and all audio disks, so I figure the lasers are working. What could be the problem?

If you've tried cleaning the Laser with a Lens Cleaner Disk or directly with Lens Cleaner Fluid and a QTip without any improvement then the Laser is Failing.

It takes less power to read some DVDs than others and a lot less power to read an Audio CD. The Laser will continue to deteriorate until it won't play anything.

I got an Sony HCD S 300 Home Theater set recently. As I put in dvds and cds for playing, the dvd player says NO DISK. Thinking it is because it is not a original dvd it isn't working, I put another DVD...

It could be down to the Region of the Player or the Laser is Failing. As it doesn't play CDs then I suspect the the Laser is Failing (almost failed if it plays a cleaner but not CDs).

You can try cleaning it with a dvd disk cleaner first. If that dont work by a cheap dvd player and run it to the inputs on the back of the surround player.

Panasonic SA DK10 starts reading discs, gets to 00 and then stops

If this problem occurs only at this cd/dvd it's a disk problem. If it occurs on various disks try using a cd/dvd cleaner set, a wet one is better. Follow the instructions on the set. The main idea is to put one drip of the included liquid at the set (usually isopropyl alchohol) at a specific place (like small brush) on the disk surface and play this disk. This way the "brush" will clean up the laser lens and after that the cd/dvd player will be able to read the disks. BE CAREFULL not to put too much liquid on the "brush". In case this don't solve your problem, the cd player needs laser lens replacement by a technician.

ESDVD100 READS NO DISC

I had to gently clean the lense with a q-tip with just a hint of rubbing alcohol on it then move the laser carriage all the way out and in two or three times then play a CD for the player to work again. There was a fine layer of dust around the laser so I think that it may be very sensitive to that kind of thing.
