I have a 2002 ford focus, it has factory am/fm cd stereo in it. All of a sudden it looses the fm reception, staticy. It has fm and fm 1 an 2, have tried both and it does the same thing. Any ideas. Thanks Phil
Common fault but as others have suggested, check aerial plug. It does fall out, speed humps vibration, cause it to come out of it's socket. If not this, try a seperate aerial such as a piece of wire or a small screw driver blade in the hole. Press search and see if radio finds a station and locks on.If it does then you know you have an aerial problem and your radio unit is ok. Sadly, if no luck and no result then the only answer is to relpace the unit as it is not servicable. These can be found at some car breakers but take your car and make sure that you buy a tried and tested unit with its pin No. Typical costs are £30 with casette and £70 for cd player.
However because there are so many different types of socket and plug arrangments on these units and they all look alike , don't be tempted to part with any cash until you have got the correct one that fits your car and it works. If does and you have its pin, it will have to be entered to make it work and you have made a written note of it in your Ford hand book , then pay the man. Good luck From been there and have the tee shirt. J.R. Note. Halfords do a fitted alternative replacement for around £150 if no luck and you are prepared to spend that kund of money.
More than likely the antenna cable has come loose from the back of the unit. Head to Walmart and get a removal tool, pull the radio, and resecure it.
Take it back to the ford dealer and tell them we all know they are aware of the problem and we as a group will be seeking compensation.lets form an on-line petition any IT people please organise one and i will publicise this using the media if we can get enough support.

Have similar problem but in a '02 Fiesta. Receives MW fine but no FM - aerial was checked last time it was in for a service, any other possibilities?
My radio on my 2002 Ford Focus will not get a reception from am or fm. I have checked the antenna connection and it was secure! My cassette does work! How do I know if I need a new radio or do something with the antenna?
I have a 2001 ford focus ztec and can not get fm reception. can get am fine but fm went a couple of months ago. any ideas?
I have the same issue, no reception only once in a blue moon?? A mechanic told me that it's a common issue in this type of car.
I recently started getting poor reception with my 2002 Focus. I went on a trip, came back to town, and after about 10 minutes of driving, if I am lucky, my radio reception becomes full of static. What could be causing this?
Same as the others my 2002 focus Zetec factory titted
radio as up FM although Am and cd are fine.It was a gradual deteriation.but now its completely gone.
On the positive side i`ve discovered some good new radio
stations!
Yeah, I have no FM radio stations. I receive AM just fine and cd player works. I've had another problem with my car where it wouldn't start and I've had to jump it a few times. It seems like this may have been the cause. Also after reading around on a few websites about this problem I found out that other people were having the same problem either right after working on their car or getting it serviced.
Possible that the head unit shorted out and it's some kind of electrical problem because I've checked all my antenna connections and they are good.
I have the same problem with the radio in my 2002 Ford Focus as most others on here. The CD player works fine but the AM/FM radio stations are full of static or do nothing at all. I am lucky I guess because I do get one AM station and it is my favorite sports station that I listen to all the time. Â My wife however wants her FM. I got the tools to remove the radio so I could check the antenna, but the connection is fine. Â I'm ready to go to the junkyard and just get another radio.
I lost the entire fm and Am. AM has a distinct buzz. Went to the junkyard and got a drop in factory replacement and it worked. It definitely isn't the aerial, but has something to do with the radio itself.
Mine worked until it warmed up. Cold Canadian days paid off.
The problem is exactly the same. How do you remove the aerial unit from the roof??
We have the same problem with our ford focus. After a few minutes, the fm turns to static, tunes in and out for a few minutes until it is completely gone. AM works just fine. I changed the antenna. I believe this is a problem with the radio itself.
