Siemens gigaset SE587

I have a siemens gigaset SE587 wireless router, the signal strength seems very poor as I have trouble connecting my Xbox 360 which is only about 20M away on the same level.....Tiscali advise me that it has a range of 100M.....don't think so somehow! is there a way to improve signal strength?
Thanks.

I have 3 pcs and two playstation 3s . Two of the pcs and 1 playstation works perfectly , the 2nd plystation wont connect at all and the 3rd pc only connects occasionally . The 3rd pc is only 6mtrs away and has great difficulty connecting but if you move it closer it works fine . I as convinced the range on this router is very limited

I am having very simnilar problems.

My router is sitting on top of my PC, the wireless adaptor arial is sitting NEXT to the router, I can connect BUT it spends 4 or 5 mins trying to aquire a network address then gives up.

My laptop does the same and the Wii cannot see it at all.

Connecting by cable (as I am at the moment) is nearly as bad my network connetion has to have been in the connected state for 6 mins BEFORE it will actually let me connect to the internet.

Tiscalli are going round in circles telling me to use the cd rom to install the software (shame this doesn't work and I have asked for another)

I had a lot of problems with this as well and I finally figured out that whilst your wireless router can supposedly support 254 different devices, it's only usually set up to look after five. We have about 8 wireless devices in our house and were having loads of problems. If you find that it's usually the same device that has a problem connecting then this is likely to be your problem - all the IP addresses have been snaffled by the other devices.

Go into the router set up (type in "my ip" in google, click on the What Is My IP, and then type the IP you are given into your browser, should take you to the router log in). Log in (admin/admin if you haven't changed anything). Go to Set Up, then Local Network. You should see a start IP and a finish IP - will probably only be about 5 difference. Change the last digits of the finish IP - if it's 145, maybe move it to 150, that should give you IPs for 10 devices - if you have more devices increase it further.

Save and restart everything just to be on the safe side and you should find that everything can get it's own IP and should have no problem cvonnecting - hope it helps.

Try moving you're pc AWAY from the access point a little. as having them too close together is not going to help.

Also, as this is the standard modem you get with tiscali, it will be preset to a certain frequency (channel). So it is likely that others are using this channel (ie other tiscali customers on your street), causing interference.

Change the channel by connecting ur pc to the router (via cable if necessary), open you're internet browser (internet explorer or firefox), type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar
username: admin
password: admin

->Wireless (the tab below the word tiscali)

It should be in there somewhere... fairly easy to spot, just look for the word channel

trial and error until it's better.

Having had 3 routers burn out, I was actually quite impressed with this. Easy to set up, and it just sits there, works, and does not crash. 3 weeks so far running 24/7. I can even pick up at the bottom of my garden - through walls - 60 feet+ away. There MAY be a setting you have to access where you can turn up the wireless power. I remember a Netgear you could set to 25%, 50% or 100%. NO WIRELESS ROUTER WOULD BE MADE THAT IS DESIGNED TO WORK ONLY TO 10 FEET

I also have a siemens gigaset se587 and when i rang up tiscalli i was told the range was only 10 ft. so i suggest buying a universal router that works on any network

I keep losing connection to my Wifi Extender

Apple have produced a downloadable app for managing this router.
It also acts like a signal strength meter, and can control various modes on the extender.

Check there is not a scheduler or "Good Night" setting on the extender.
EdiRange
Signal indicator
Amber
Flashing
Poor signal strength:
0 - 39%
So your problem is still poor signal strength, your extender is still not within the wireless range or your router.
See Manual.

How do I forward a port with this router. Siemens Gigaset SE587 WLAN

Oops - wrong button pressed. This was meant as a solution, not as a clarification request.

You did not mention for what application you want to set portforwarding for.
Take a look at this page. It gives you detailed instructions for all kinds of applications. If yours is not in the list, you can still follow the general instructions.

If you have any more specific questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

I can't connect apple airport expresses with a siemens 587 route

Login to your airport express using Apple's airport utilities (either in it's current configuration or after resetting it).

Using the airport utility do not choose manual setup, just select continue.

Adjust (as required) the airport express station name and password and select continue.

Select "I have a wireless network and I want to add AirPort Express or replace an existing device on my network and select continue.

Select I want Airport Express to wireless join my current network and select continue.

Choose if you want to extent the rance of your network or just join the network and select continue.

Choose the network you wish to join... etc etc etc....

You should be fine.

How do I connect 3 wireless routers to make one network

I just figured out how to do this with two. You need to connect just your secondary router to the PC and change it's IP address to ".2" at the end instead of ".1" Then you need to turn off DHCP on that router. The SSID should be the same on both. When you connect them and they have different IP addresses, the main router with DHCP turned on will interact with the other router that has DHCP turned off. They need to have different IP addresses, the same SSID, and only one with DHCP enabled.
I am not a networking pro, but figured this out by searching online. Good luck.

the ipaddress of the router may not be 192.168.1.1 it should say somewhere on the router or the documentation

if you are suing DHCP to allocate the IP address, and the router is set as a DHCP server you should be able to see the ipaddress using whatever tools Apple give on settign up networks.

I think there is possibly something wrong with your telephone line setup check that no phone is connected unless its through a adsl filter, or you have an adsl socket on the master socket in the house. The fact that you are not getting the online light to light up suggests to me that the router isn't talking ADSL network. consider removing ALL phones temporarily and see if that helps...

you should be able to PING an IP Address, again I don't know how youd do that on a MAC, hate 'em personally.

usually all you need to know are the IP address of the gateway (the router). set the DNS to the same IP address, unless Tiscali advise otherwise

the ADSL filters should only remove the hissing noise on the telephone line, so after plugging in the filter the phone should work as normal..
