I just bought a nintendo ds from ebay. Came in case with a charger - i turn it on and it says 'There is no DS cad inserted' and 'There is no Game Pak inserted'. I assume by Game Pak they mean 'a game' and...

No, you dont need to buy a ds card, ds card is another word for a ds game, also game pak is also another word for a game boy advance game. so don't worry about it and enjoy your ds : )

Put game into action replay and it says insert game card help

I had the exact same problem as you, and I solved it. The only way to do it is to keep inserting and taking out the game card, and blowing into the DS card slot and the gold things on the lower back of the game card. After doing this about 3-5 times, the action replay should finally get the message that there is a game card in the slot. Hope this helps!

Message reads no ds card inserted even though there is a card present in slot

well if thats the problematic case,

if it says no game inserted and theres a game in the slot,
this reallt worked
1 turn the ds off
2 take out the ds game
3 turn on the ds(remeber the game is out of the slot)
4 turn off the ds
5 carefully blow on the ds game all around
6 then blow in the slot were the ds game goes.
7 now put the ds game back into the slot.
8 now finaly trun on the ds and it should say theres a game in the slot

DS Lite doesn't recoginse when a game card is inserted

try to blow into the "game card slot", and that usually helps when mine says that.

Couldt find_ds_menu.dat

Do you have your DS set on Auto Mode, if so the DS will automatically start up any games that are inserted.

Deselecting Auto Mode:
If it's on Auto Mode, any games are automatically started. To deselect auto mode you just need to start up your DS without any games in either of the game slots, then it'll go to the DS screen, since no games are in for now this screen is useless right?

To select Manual Mode ( where it goes to the selection screen ) as your preffered setup, you'll see a small icon of what resembles a DS at the bottom of the menu screen. Remeber your games are still not inserted at this point yet. Use the directional pad to select the mini icon, or you can tap it twice. Tapping it proves more difficult though due to it's position. Once selected a toolbar of four options will appear, tap on the one displaying a wrench. From that box three other options should appear, tap on the one shown as an arrow pointing halfway through a rectangle (start up settings) you want to select Manul Mode. Wait a few seconds for the DS settings to save then you can turn it off. Now you'll be able to see the selection screen with your games inserted.

Summary of all that:
  1. remove any inserted games
  2. turn on to see the menu screen
  3. select the mini DS icon at screen's bottom
  4. when the four pictures appear, tap on the one of a "wrench"
  5. when three more pictures appear tap on the one of an arrow pointing half way through the rectangle
  6. two options appear, select manual mode.
I really hope thats what you meant ^_^ If it wasn't, ask one of the experts.

Nintendo DS Lite

Usually the seller load the card with games so you only need to insert the card with DS game shape into the DS game slot-1. And that must work for long time as you dont overfill the card with saved games.
When you turn ON the NDS with the card placed (like a common game), The DS card should show a menu to choose between the available games in it.

If you cant see any game, menu or whatever then you might have a blank card so you might need to load the games yourself into the card. You must have a flash linker (big slot-2 GBA cartridge) that must have a jack to plug the USB cable from your computer.

You can download the required software latest files from the manufacturers website. Once connected, turn on your DS, your PC will recognize it and you will be able to drag and drop files, then you can delete or copy some less used game roms or save files from the card to your PC leaving free space for the others to run.

If nothing of that works for you, then you would try to find a FAQ or support forum site where you can find more options to solve this issue. All the cards work almost the same way but each one has his own issues, manuals and FAQs. And some sellers are selling the DS cartridge only, without the flash linker or USB cable and many people dont know with that tools they can exchange and download and load other ROMS, clear the card when stuck or corrupted, etc.

Good Luck...
