Hi, I have a printer (HPDJ840c) connected direct to a computer, I can print test pages and some emails, but other emails won't print.
The settings are the same for all the documents I print (A4, portrait, memo style) sometimes I get the message saying the document was sent and the printer sounds like it will start printing then doesn't, other times I get the message confirming printing then nothing. I don;t get the printer Icon in the system tray.
However, when I select a different email to print it works fine... I've reinstalled/updated the drivers and I can print to another (networked) printers. Just a few emails sent to the 840c are being a PITA. Any ideas?

Re: HP Deskjet 840c - Printing Emails
I did see you reinstalled your software) but please continue
It is important that you have that icon by the clock. Power off the printer by pressing the power button on the printer.
Please un-install your printer software through Add/Remove Programs within the control panel. Please restart the Pc after un-install is complete. Create a folder on your hard drive and name it, "HP DeskJet 840C". Go to this link listed below & download the printer driver software listed. When you save to disk you can choose where you want to save. Pick the folder you created. Save inside this folder. The HP driver (Will most likely be updated software). I promise, you will have a icon down by your clock when finished. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=59868&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&submit.y=4&submit.x=7&lang=en&cc=us
Follow the instruction in your manual for setup & installation.
If you using Outlook Express & you want to print or send through your printer the page should be set as 8.5x11". Orientation should be set to Portrait, unless you set this for A4.
Lastly, please turn off your anti-virus software during install & re-install. Just in case you come back to this thread!

Hi Sir/mam '' i hope i can help you with my idea ' as you said your HP prints the print test but not working to print any document '', so here we start on start menu then click my computer , as it opens you can be able to see your HP device icon , click HP then click print settings , set it to print using HP as default printer , because another instance it is set to print to image or print to file or print to email. . thank you
If the printer is not printing, check the cables connecting the printer and the computer. Make sure it is properly connected. Check the settings on your computer if printer is set as a default printer and try printing a test page from the driver page. To do this open printer and faxes, right click on the printer >properties and click the button print test page.
If you are able to print a test page, check the settings of your application and make that the correct printer is selected.

Hi, you can't print a test page directly from the printer, but since it's a copier also, you can copy a page of text or graphics to make sure everything prints okay. Just place a piece of paper on the glass and press either the black or color copy button. (The computer must be on to make a copy.)
Thanks for using FixYa. Please check that your printer has paper, has no paper jams and is currently set on the ‘use printer online’ settings by right clicking property and then setting it from there. Also please check that you have selected the correct default printer and drivers in the printer options. If there is any paper jams clear it. You can also check the few things like--- Please check that both ends of the cable which connects the printer to the computer are connected properly. To print a test page right click on printer properties and then click the 'Print Test Page' button and see if you get a test page printed properly. If you do, this indicates that the printer is properly connected to the computer and the computer has the drivers installed.
Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.
1. Clear the print queue, and if there are jobs that won't delete, reboot the computer.
2. Now clear the jobs on the printer (cancel job button) until the status light turns green.
3. Put a piece of paper in the manual feed tray on the front.
4. Print a test page.
If the test page prints to the paper in the manual feed tray, then it is set as the default tray. Go into the printer settings and change it to "auto" or tray 1. If the test page prints to tray 1, but the original document you tried to print (when it got stuck) still won't print, cancel the job. Now, again, put paper in the manual feed tray. Try to print the document again and if it pulls from there, go into page setup of your document and change the setting from "manual" to "auto" or tray 1. Clear the job again (if it's stuck) and you should be able to print again. Hope this helps. This is one of the most common solutions - it happens a lot, especially with documents that are emailed from other people and once they get stuck in the queue, nothing will print (except the test pages directly from the printer, like you describe).
