Don't use refill kits, they are no good in quality printers. Also the cartridges in the newer models have a chip in them that knows when the cartridge is empty. When it becomes empty, the chip has to be reset, and this is what those mall cartridge fillers do.

Checking the Ink Status with the Ink Lamps on the Operation Panel
The ink level detector is mounted on the machine to detect the remaining ink level. The machine considers as ink is full when a new FINE cartridge is installed, and then starts to detect a remaining ink level. If you install a used FINE cartridge, the indicated ink level of it may not be correct. In such case, refer to the ink level information only as a guide.
When remaining ink cautions or errors occur, the error code will be displayed on the LED (Light Emitting Diode) to inform you of the error. Check the error code and take appropriate action.

Print Cartridge Status
The Print Cartridge Status Light flashes when one
or both of your print cartridges are low on ink,
improperly installed, or malfunctioning. It will
also flash if you are trying to use the wrong print
cartridge type. If the problem is low ink, the light
will stop flashing when you open the top cover.
For any other print cartridge-related problem, the
Print Cartridge Status Light will continue to flash.
To check the status of your print cartridges, open
the printer's top cover. The yellow arrow on the
print cartridge cradle aligns with one of five Print
Cartridge Status icons.
