How to use an extra keyboard

Hi,
I bought an external keyboard from a friend of mine, who used it with her desktop computer (windows xp model).
Now my computer is acer aspire 3680.
I connected those two, but nothing happened. The keyboard didn't come with any cd rom, so no driver for it with me. (I don't even know if the problem is I don't have a driver for it.)
Could someone help me?

I just got an extra keyboard from a friend. It's Compaq FCC ID No.E5XKB5137; Model No. 5137. I was told it can go with my DELL Computer. It doesn't work after rebooting. Do I need a driver for this?

Most keyboards should work out of the box. But note that most laptops nowadays don't have PS/2 ports. So this keyboard can probably only be connected when it's a USB one.

When you connect it to a USB port it should work. What kind of keyboard is it?

    Greetings,

What that i can see form jyour case is that your notebook is disabled to us e usb keyboards.

what i can suggest you to do is to go to the BIOS SETUP
and enable this option.

you can enter to the BIOS page by hiting F2 or DEL key, according to your manufacturer.

i hoope this will work on the basis of your description.

Regards.

Swapping hard drives from one computer do not work because of hardware differences even between same brands and models.
You can install Windows XP on his computer but you need the Windows XP installation CD and you will need to use the product installation code from your computer. It is printed on the Windows label that is attached to the bottom of your laptop.

You maybe able to get a copy from your friendly computer shop or on EBay. Make sure you also get the Windows installation code with the Windows XP Pro CD.

Good day. I bought this Netbook with Windows 7 installed. I need to format and reload Windows XP as I have software that I need to use that only works with XP, I have an external "USB CD Drive"...

Hi neil720...

Installing the external CD Player...
You will go and start up and install Windows XP by doing he following:
Plug in your external CD drive, and let windows install it into the system...
Once the CD is ready to go, shut down the computer.
***************************************************************************************
You will first need to format your hard drive, I will give you instructions on how to do that.

1...To format your hard drive and install XP:
To set you computer back to factory fresh settings you will need to format the hard drive and install the XP operating system and the drivers.

1.Format the hard drive:
You do this by double left clicking on "My Computer",then double left click the main drive (normally C drive).
When the window pops open, you will choose "Format"
Keep in mind that once you format your hard drive you will loose all your files, programs, pictures, etc that you installed since the computer was new.
So make your back up on a portable hard drive, thumb drive, etc.
2. Once the formatting of the hard drive is complete you will need to install the XP operating system along with the drivers.
You will now insert the CD's into your external CD player starting with #1 first and continuing until all has been installed.
After all has been installed, shut your computer off and restart.
That will bring your computer back to Windows XP factory new condition as far as operating is concerned.

Lcd screen stuck in external screen mode

How to use the function (Fn) keys on the keyboard - ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p

Switching the display output location.
Switch between the computer display and an external monitor. If an external monitor is attached, the computer output is displayed in the following three patterns by turns:
  • External monitor (CRT display)
  • Computer display and external monitor (LCD + CRT display)
  • Computer display (LCD)
Notes:
  • For any operating system other than Windows 2000 or Windows XP, no additional procedure is needed. Just press Fn+F7.
  • This function is not supported if different desktop images are displayed on the computer display and the external monitor (the Extend desktop function).
  • This function does not work while a DVD movie or a video clip is playing.
To enable this function in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, the following procedure is needed:
  1. When you log on to Windows 2000 and Windows XP for the first time, press Fn + F7 and select a display-switching function in the Initial setup window. Since in Windows 2000 and Windows XP multiple users can log on to a single operating system by using different user IDs, each user needs to select the function in the initial setup window when logging on for the first time.
  2. If the Fn + F7 key combination have been assigned to a presentation scheme function, start Presentation Director, and change the settings.
