Question about Mitsubishi WS-55513 55" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Won't turn on.

Worked fine yesterday, tonight it won't come on with the button on the set or from the remote. I unplugged it, plugged it back in and the green light comes on but nothing else happens. The light will not turn off with either the switch on the set or the remote.

Before I call somebody in, I'd love to have a direction in which to steer them. I've read a lot of "this might work" suggestions, but nobody came back and said, hey, it worked. The set is about three years old and has never had a problem until this.

Thank you!

OK, here's the deal. The first instance of us knowing there was a problem was when we tried to turn on the set with the remote. Nothing happened. Then with the button on the set, again nothing happened. No green light, no click. Pull the plug, re-plug it in and there is no click, but the green light comes on, stays on and will not turn off with the switch or the remote. Overnight unplugged, no difference. Are we still talking DM module?

Next issue: we live on Hawaii Island and there is no shop here that will touch this thing. I am familiar with basic electronics repairs. Is this something I could replace myself? Are there some instructions/diagrams (like Sams Manuals) available? Any suggestions about the parts supplier?

    Thank you again, in advance!

I'm confused. First you said that "this is common on [this] model, and now you say it is quite strange and will require a tech above and beyond. And then you leave me with the phone jockeys in India or wherever. As I said, there is nobody around to fix this thing besides me, so what I would really love is a diagnosis or some trouble-shooting techniques. Would anything like that be forthcoming, or am I dreaming?

Is the manual link for a repair manual or the owner's manual? I need the repair manual, but either way, the download doesn't work. There's no extension on it. My computer recognizes it as a pdf but it will not download.

Hey, you're up for a challenge, right?

    Thanks

Hi,

try unplugging it and thn plug it back if the light comes for 3-5 sec. and goes off thn you will hear another click noise when it goes off. you never get a picture or sound. If im right thn there are several circuits in the tv that might cause this. the most common are the power supply and the convergence circuits. a cost of a repair for either will range around $400.00. this is a great model and well worth a repair.
good luck:)

I don't think you will find this kind of problem written up in any of
the manuals or service books. It is quite strange and really, if a
tech is needed, well require one who is a cut above the ordnary one:
Someone who really knows how to troubleshoot and analyse and think
about what is going on inside. Most Mitsubishi techs are "phone
jockeys" the merely call an 800 number and someone tells them which
board to replace. They replace until the repair is made and they don't
really know what is going on inside - but you get a bill for $400 or
$500! So, be very careful who you call in.

the next thing is you can get the parts from www.partstore.com

Cant get the power to turn on,worked fine last night, it got unplugged, this morning plugged in, won't turn on and the power button just flashse

Flashing is either an error code or the set trying to boot up--some of the Mitsubishi sets if power removed will blink for a minute and then stop--then the set can be turned on.

a model number?

** TV won't turn on.** No picture or sound. Please Help !

If the red light won't come on it is not getting power.First, try plugging it in to a different outlet,or unplug one of the gadgets you know is working and plug the tv in there. You are simply switching. If you know that there is power coming from the outlet and it still won't come on then you'll have to check the cord;don't go much farther than that without expert help.

1 have a 6 year-old Mitsubishi model WS-48511 series 1080 rear projection TV that now won't turn on. A few days ago we shut the TV off, and now when i plug it in the blinking green power light...

This is called the blinking green light of death-----only one of two things can cause this problem.

First: remove front speaker grill (IT PULLS OFF) AND remove inspection plate behind it; look for the two bundles of wires coming down and to the right from the front keyboard of the set.

Unplug both plugs you find (different and marked so you cannot mix them up-----the idea is to take the front keyboard out of circuit-----set will still function with remote as receiver is behind front screen)

Try (after 70 seconds) to turn on with remote

If it comes on---defective reset button on front keyboard----use set only with remote or remove and remove actual reset switch---it is located behind and part of frame for screen----entire front screen would have to be removed to get at it.

Second: if disconnection of the front keyboard does not help, the DM unit is bad.

As you look from back of set it is large metal box at extreme left side.

The blinking light is the unit trying to "Boot" up-----these have a problem where caps and a few other parts in that unit fail-----kits on the net are available----Mitsubishi no longer sells or services these units but PTS Electronics does repair them.

Let me know if you have questions and try disconnection of the front keyboard FIRST.

Older projection tv won't turn on.

id replace the tv its 15 years old and past the livlihood they usually have. it would cost more in parts to repair it than to go out and buy a new one. im sure you probably already know that though. have the tuner checked but i dont think it will save the tv but if it comes on when the cable box isnt hooked up then the problem could be in the tuner. its hard to tell. the tuner is about 100.00
