You need to update your current video card built into the pc. Go to this link, it's for your GX260. Save this link in your favorites. You'll need to return here later as you update.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P4_GX260&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
Open control panel, than open Display. Click the settings tab. Than click Advanced, click on the Adapter tab. You'll need to write down the Adapter type & the Adapter Information. Now you can download from the link the correct drivers for your video card.
Enjoy & take your time with this.

Hi, My monitor has dull display. After starting my computer, I could see the desktop but after few seconds it disappears. I am sure whats happening. Please suggest me what to do.

My answer will help Windows XP and Windows 7 users.
When the computer starts, start pressing F8 button. After several seconds you will see the following menu.
Safe Mode Safe Mode with Networking Safe Mode with Command Prompt ---------------------------- ---------------------------- ----------------------------

If you have Win XP, there will be a menu item as 'Enable VGA Mode'. In Win 7 you will see 'Enable low-resolution video (640 x 480)'
Select this option and press enter. (XP users will have to enter again).
After the computer is ready, goto display properties and save the resolution.

- In XP right-click on desktop, select 'Properties', Click the 'Settings' tab (last tab on top), and click 'OK' button.

- In Win 7, Right-click on screen and select 'Screen Resolution'. Click 'OK' button.

(Ignore any warnings)

Restart the computer.

Set the screen resolution again to a reasonable setting.

- Be careful! If you set it too high (if the monitor does not support the resolution you select), again the screen might disappear! (Sometimes this happen automatically after installing a game)

I have a dell Optiplex gx260. I bought a nice big Acer 23"monitor 1920x1030 but the max resolution in the graphics properties is 1280x1024 so I get a stretched screen or a poor resolution

jenny_beech

The resolution 1920x1030 is not a standard resolution. Also at the time this computer came out you did not have monitors this big ether. So you most likely will not be able to get 1920x1030 on this computer. However if you install the drivers for the monitor on the computer you should atleast get the right aspect ratio so you have poor resolution. You should have a CD with the drivers on in it. The llink below will show you haw to install them maually in Windows 7 if the drivers are not in an installer. Let me know if you need the steps for Windows XP.

How to install your monitor drivers in Windows 7

Hello Friend,

Please visit below URl and download display drivers from "Video" section. If your computer having intel graphic card then please download intel driver or if your computer is having ATI graphic card then please download ATI driver

After downloading the driver install and reboot your system once.

This might fix your resolution problem.
