How do I replace the power recepticle on a Compaq Presario 2100? The recepticle and comperter-end of the power cord gets very hot. Melted the plastic on the original and we just bought a new power cord...same thing. Would like to be directed to the service and maintenance manual for the 2100. Found one on this page for a different laptop, but not the 2100. Its at this link: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01095493.pdf

You can get a replacement power cord for this laptop from any elctronic or computer store near you like Besbuy or Radioshack, of you can order it online from this sites.
There is a site that will give instruction on how to repair this but it you will need soldering skills and delicate handling to do so. try this site see if it helps. http://laptopsplanet.com/compaq-presario-dc-power-jack-repair/
sounds like the power connector inside the computer finally gave out. Bad news is most likely it is built onto the motherboard which means it has to be replaced. If you are no longer under warranty this might be a little expensive to fix.
I would probably take it into a repair shop and get a quote for a new motherboard for it.
1. You possibly have a damage ac cord or you have damaged connecting plug at the PC . 2. try to obtain a new AC cord. 3. Another possibility is the power supply for the PC needs replacement. 4. A PC technician can determine this for you. Contact Compaq for repair rates because most likely this is a special power supplied system.
2. Check the power supply connector to make sure that the two prongs at the end are on either side of the pin, as you may not have enough power to fire the machine.
