Question about Dell A960 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

SCANNING I think that I need a cd in order to scan a doc and then edit it, but unfortunately, I can't find my cd. Any solution?

I already had found the first file, so I clicked on and installed the 2nd file. The same thing happens. I scan a black & white doc and a box pops up and tells me that I need the OCR application on my cd in OCR directory...install it.

I admit that I am ignorant...and I don't know what to do now. Since I don't have a cd for my printer anymore (and I assume that is where this file is supposed to be) what to do?

    Thanks for trying!!

    lizzycake,

if you would have just typed what you typed on 1/31, I wouldn't have wasted my time looking for fixes. Every think I post I re-check. Here is a link for your manual: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy...

So to get back to your problem. You need to un-install everything in your pc that has to do with the A960 printer. No need to unplug the printer, just power it off. Go to these 2 links & download the 2 drivers. Each has it's own file name like, "R74855.EXE". Creat 2 folders on your desktop. Name as follows. 1st-R69636.EXE, next folder, 2nd-R77282.EXE. When you download make sure your saving each file to the correct folder. The downloads file names match the folder. These are numbered so you install in the correct order. Check the manual for instructions on how to setup & install the software.

The software you downloaded before, find & delete it.

Lastly before installing the printer software please run disk clean up. Click the start button, slide to Accessories than slide to system tools, click Disk Cleanup. Here is link 1:

    http://support.dell.com/support/download...

    File name R69636.EXE

    Second link:

    http://support.dell.com/support/download...

When you click the file .exe to install it will want to uncompress it's self into a folder. Point is back to the folders you created on your desktop. Do that for each. If you get the same error message you can point to the uncompressed files inside each folder. One should contain the OCR

I'll check back here & see if this has worked & go from there.

For scanning text documents to edit, you will need the Lexmark OCR scan software installed on your computer. The scan software is available only on the installation disc that came with your printer. Just insert the disc to your computer hard drive and install the software. The next time you scan, you will have the option to edit your file. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark technical support again for assistance.

Scanning to a word doc so i can edit the doc

You need to buy or download OCR software to your computer. The scanner doesn't control that, the only way to get a word document from a scan is to "read" the document with OCR software.

HOW DO I SCAN A DOC.

Hi there,
Scanning images : You can scan images from the machine to a computer without printing them and save them in popular image types such as JPEG, TIFF, bitmaps or PDF. If you are scanning printed text, you can use the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software to convert it to text data.

Scanning Methods : You can select from various scanning methods.
* If you want ot Edit or Print the Scanned images
MP Navigator EX enables you to edit the scanned images, such as optimizing or trimming. You can also start appilication sotfware from MP Navigator EX to edit ot print the scanned images.
For detailed operations of MP Navigator EX, refer to the Scanning Guide on-screen manual.
You can also use the Operation Panel to open MP Navigator EX as well as open it using the computer.

-- Opening MP Navigator EX using the Operation Panel
1) (MAC only) Prepare your computer before scanning.
This operation is not necessary for MAC OS X v.10.4 x.
For details, refer to "Scanning Methods" in the User's Guide on-screen manual.
2) Turn on the machine.
3) Load the original Document on the Platen Glass.
4( Press the SCAN button, then press the Color or Black button.

* If you want to Scan Originals with Advanced Settings.
Scan Gear enables you to scan originals with advanced settings such as the resolution. For detailed operations of ScanGear , refer to the Scanning Guide on-screen-manual.

Besides the above mentioned methods, you can use a TWAIN or WIA-( Windows Vista and Windows XP only) complaint application software and the Control Panel (Windows Vista and Windows XP only) to scan originals with this machine. For detailed operations, refer to the Scanning Guide on-screen manual.

Hope this helps.
Have a good day.

Problem using OCR with Canon MP610 all-in-one

I got this message too, before I installed an OCR program. It may be that you need to install one (or specify it, if you have one already). With my MP610, an installation disk was included that contained the OmniPage SE program for OCR. When I installed that on my computer, and told MP Navigator (another Canon-supplied program, that controls scanning) to use it as the "Open With" program for OCR, it worked.

Scanning with lexmark x2500

This is a function of the optical character recognition (ocr) software, not the scanner. Most scanners have bundled software that include ocr and retail ocr software is available. Good quality originals are necessary to minimize the amount of manual corrections and the ease of making those corrections is what you want in the ocr program or you end up better off retyping a document if 100% accuracy is required. Graphics are a consideration when scanning mixed documents so don't rule out cutting and pasting those separately if necessary in Word. Take the time to master the software if this is a common task for you keeping in mind that better software usually merits the extra cost if it saves you time. Don't neglect the scanner settings for resolution as the software works only as well as what you present it to recognize. A Google search on scanning will help you on specific tasks as there are whole books on this subject. ~Steve Medley

Scanning when out of ink

I don't think the Scanner neeeds a Cartridge to Scan a Document. You should be able to scan your Document even if your Tanks ran out of Ink. Just use the same process of scanning that you used so far and will be successful to scan the Document you're about to.
If you can't do anything regarding this, contact Vendor.
