Our harmony 550 remote appears to be frozen. All it says on the display screen is 'welcome to your remote'. No buttons work at all. We have tried replacing batteries, the '2' trick, reprogramming the remote etc.
I had the same problem with my remote and I resynced it by plugging it into my computer and disconnecting the batteries. I then held the power button down and put the batteries back in while it was still connected to the computer and it worked to reset it!
I got the same issue with mine, and hooking to the computer and upgrading the firmware worked for me. I first had to take the bateries out and let it sit for 24 hours so it would loose the codes inside. No problems after that.

Remove the battery and allow the voltage on the circuit to fade off. now reset the battery and see if the remote works. If there was any battery leak then the pcb can be damaged due to corrosion. please check this link for tips to repair:
Perhaps you do not already have the Harmony software installed on your PC? If not, it's on the CD and you will need the USB cable to connect the remote to PC, but that comes much later after you have constructed a configuration on your Logitec account. Then the 550 should certainly be able to show more than just the welcome message.
You don't really need the CD because you might as well download the latest software version from the Logitec website for 550, install it on PC, and get the full instructions there.
Next register using the software on PC and check that you have the the latest firmware according to the instruction manual. The on-screen guide on PC will lead you through making a configuration for your devices.
Does the 550 have a "sync" button to finalize the data installed during online programming and/or did you follow all the steps to complete the proramming for the 550? If you did, and it still doesnt work, I suggest contacting the staff at Logitech or bringing it back to the dealer from whom you bought it for the purpose of clarification or return. Or, maybe the dealer can program it for you.
Hi. The 'Welcome to Your Remote' messageon a H550 means that there is a button that is stuck down on the remote. 1. Take out the battery, and push in and massage each button to ensure it is not stuck down. 2. Put the battery back in, update the firmware. To do this, log in to the software, click 'Downloads' at the top and 'Firmware' 3. Update the remote. That should get the remote working! :)

I just got off the telephone with Harmony support with the exact same problem. The rep. indicated that this is usually caused by one of the buttons being stuck. Sure enough, my #1 button was stuck. All is well now. Call 1-866-291-1505 if that does not help.
