I've had the BlackJack for 2 years now, and only once received the No Service message. At first, I thought it was my phone, and tried powering it off and back on. That didn't work, then I tried taking the battery out for a few minutes, and that didn't work either.
Then, I contacted AT&T wireless via the Live Chat feature on their website. They asked for my address, and then came back and said that 2 towers were out in my area. About an hour later, service was restored and my phone made the ring to let me know I had voicemail.
Perhaps you had a similar outage in your area.

- Another option I read online that works for some BlackJack users is to turn off your phone, and remove both your battery and SIM card. Wait at least 5 minutes and re-insert your SIM card and battery pack. Then turn your phone back on and see if that resets it.
Also, the BlackJack's internal antenna is not that sensitive/strong and gets less bars than other phones. The antenna is in the bottom of the phone, so hold your hand towards the top half and point the bottom towards a tower, to test its signal strength.
The other possibility is that you have an early model Blackjack. Some of those had problems with the internal antenna becoming loose, and there was an Exchange Program set up by AT&T.
BlackJack phones with a date of Nov. 2006 (06.11) to Feb. 2007 (07.02) were affected. The date is on the white label under the phone. Here is some additional info on this problem:
