SOURCE: my toshiba laptop has a thick white line down the screen
The normal cause of lines across the LCD of a laptop is a damaged video
cable. The unusual cause would be the video card itself.
To determine which item is at fault, you need only attach an external
monitor to your laptop's video-out, and then swap your monitor view to
'both' or mirrored (usually just the function key (FN), plus one of the
Fkeys...look for an off-blue picture of a monitor on the Fkeys).
If the lines across the screen also appear on an external monitor, then the video card is damaged.
If the lines only appear on the laptop's LCD, but not the external
monitor, then just the laptop's internal video cable is damaged.
Hope this helps.

did you ever try to go on gateway site to find a fix or microsoft.com to see if there is a update display driver for you computer
SOURCE: white line at bottom of display screen getting bigger.
If it's still under warranty they should be able to fix it for you. This sounds like a hardware problem. If you don't have a warranty you'd have to pay to get it fixed.

Hi, I can't guaranty this will help the problem, but for a quick try I say its worth it. On the Desktop, right click to open Personalize, select Display Settings; by adjusting the resolution it helps with the "Flicker effect" aswell, by selecting different settings, you can "view" the best Monitor Display. "If the solution helped, rating it is appreciated, thanks."

Flickering, always cause by LCD cable. Change it at any computer shop or service center and its not so expensive
