Well just because you get no video boot does in no way mean its the video card in fact its about 90% that it is not the ATI card unless you have a bad motherboard. I would be looking at some of the known issues with the HP laptop blackscreen problems. Utube has a some interesting people getting around and fixing this issue in different ways.

How do i replace video card on HP Pavillion zd8000

Video IC chip is built-in on the morherboard and cannot be replaced with a video card.
You maybe be able to increase the video RAM size in the BIOS setup BUT this will decrease the RAM for the laptop by the same amount.

Vertical lines on screen. how do i fix them

I would hook your laptop up to an external monitor and set it for Dual Monitor mode. If you do not see any lines on the second monitor, the problem is not with your video card, and more than likely a problem with the screen. Since this is a hardware issue, the best option is to take it in for a diagnostics from a local repair shop, if the system is out of warranty.

One last thing to try just to be sure it is not a software issue...down load the video card driver from HP.com and reinstall it. This is free to try so it is worth a shot, however I do think the issue is hardware related.

I have a zd8000 hp laptop...MB # 374711-001 screen is good. can see win xp up and running, with a flash lite on it... but no video thinking the ATI chips are burnt..... a fan stopped working.. but replaced...

take it to a hardware tech...only he can fix it...here you may not be able to get a solution....
all hardware failures can be fixed only in a tech shop...that's the shortfall of this system here in this site.

Vertical lines have appeared on my hp pavilion zd8000 can u tell me how to fix it please?

Connect an external monitor to your laptop. If the problem appears only on the display of the laptop and not on the external monitor in the same time that means the video card is ok and the problem could be : the screen of the laptop or the invertor or the cable that attaches the screen to the mptherboard. If the problem appears on both screens, external and laptop, most probably the video card/motherboard is defective.
Have it checked/repaired by a professional.

ZD8000 pAVILION where is video card, can it be replace

You can not replace the video card in a laptop, it may not even be a card, but a chip. You will have to replace the motherboard in the laptop or replace the laptop.

My Mointor Is Blank

HP will not admit it but there is a consistent problem with their zd8000 model. The video card (unfortunately part of the system board) needs to be replaced. We have seen a good number of these computers coming in with the same problem. Try starting your system in VGA mode. You can do this by hitting F8 at start up. If you now have a video screen then you know their is a problem with your video card or video card driver.

HP Pavilion zd8000 Upgrades

i have the same laptop. though your video card is independent, it is still integrated into the system and cannot be upgraded, your only be there is to go to the Radeon website and download the latest drivers for it.(it helps) As for your Ram, you can only upgrade to 2 mb of ddr2.(on mine it made a noticable difference) As far as the hd goes i believe sky is the limit, i went from 100 gb to 160 no problem
